PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tommi Kaleva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Skyler Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kaleva comes to the cage accompanied by Fort Minor - Remember The Name. Nelson comes into a darkened arena with his song building. One kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Tommi Kaleva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Skyler Nelson!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Marco Blurström and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Kaleva.
Kaleva tries to score a power double leg takedown but Nelson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kaleva somewhat.
Nelson shoots in for a takedown but Kaleva shows good takedown defense.
Kaleva shoots in looking for a takedown. Nelson tries to sprawl out of it but Kaleva keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Nelson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Kaleva looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Nelson is fending him off so far but Kaleva persists. Nope, Nelson circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tommi Kaleva. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Kaleva counters with a nice double leg into side control. Nelson won't be happy with that.

and Kaleva counters with a single leg into guard. Nelson didn't expect that.

Nelson is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kaleva defends well.

Kaleva is looking to work some ground and pound but Nelson has wrist control.
Nelson lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Kaleva!
Kaleva is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Kaleva sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Nelson is keen to just control but Kaleva is a slippery customer.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Nelson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
The fighters are battling for position here. Kaleva manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Kaleva looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Nelson has picked Kaleva up and slammed him! Kaleva can't keep hold of the triangle and Nelson manages to pass to side control!

Kaleva tries to lock up and control but Nelson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Nelson is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Kaleva can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Kaleva might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Kaleva is trying desperately to improve position.

Nelson shoots in but Kaleva avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Kaleva tries to lock up and control but Nelson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Nelson has hold of Kaleva's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Kaleva manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Skyler Nelson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! And we move into the final round!


Nelson shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kaleva sprawls well. Kaleva wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Nelson gets slowly back to his feet.
Kaleva closes this distance looking for a takedown but Nelson circles away.

Nelson clinches up with Kaleva and pushes him back against the cage.

Nelson manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Kaleva works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Nelson is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Kaleva asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards Kaleva.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
