PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between David Cox (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gerd Stenner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stenner has chosen Escapado - Gezeichnet as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, David Cox!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gerd Stenner!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Steve Montenegro and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stenner swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Cox shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Stenner napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Stenner pushes Cox away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Cox gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Cox controls the position.
Cox has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Poor strikes thrown by Cox there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Cox wants to finish this one by submission but Stenner is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Cox.
Stenner is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cox controlling his opponent.
Stenner's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Cox sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Cox has control of Stenner's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Stenner regains control of the situation pretty easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Cox stands up from mount. Strange move.
Cox takes one on the button.
Cox looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Gerd Stenner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cox takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
A shot to the body from Stenner misses

and Cox counters with a single leg into guard. Stenner didn't expect that.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Stenner preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cox pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Stenner is keeping the position for now.
Stenner wants to stand and escape but Cox is having none of it.
Cox trying to control the position from guard on top but Stenner is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

David Cox has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Stenner lands with a hook. Cox tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Stenner lands a left and a right that send Cox crashing to the mat, dazed. Stenner thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


Cox is rocked!
Stenner falls off balance throwing a combination

and Cox counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Cox.
Oh Cox is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Stenner is trying to break the clinch but Cox has him pressed against the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Stenner breaks the clinch.
Stenner looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Stenner looks gassed!
Stenner cracks Cox with a big right hand that sees him stumbling back against the cage! Cox falls to his knees and Stenner doesn't need a second invitatation - he rushes in and fires off several unanswered shots that force the referee to stop the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Gerd Stenner!
Our winner, Gerd Stenner, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
