PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Puuha Pete (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brock Carwin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pete kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is Puuha pete. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Puuha Pete! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Brock Carwin! The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Tarja Halkonen and Ben Zyskovitsi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Carwin keeps the fight on the outside. Pete throws a jab when Carwin was well out of range. Carwin is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Pete shoots in looking for a takedown. Carwin tries to sprawl out of it but Pete keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Carwin manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Carwin displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
It looks like Puuha Pete has been cut. Carwin cracks Pete with a right hand to the side of the head. Pete moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. Carwin shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Pete is rocked! Pete working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Carwin. Pete is breathing heavily. Carwin postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Pete trying to keep a closed guard but Carwin is proving a slippery customer.
Carwin has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Carwin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pete swivels though and keeps the full guard. Carwin chips away with some ground and pound. Carwin working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Carwin slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Carwin looking to pass the guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Carwin stands up over Pete, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Carwin is working Pete over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Carwin trying to control the position from guard on top but Pete is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Carwin postures up in Pete's guard and throws a big left but Pete blocks it. Pete wants to stand up but Carwin is controlling him. Carwin advances to half guard. Pete avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Carwin. Carwin is looking to advance position but Pete won't allow it. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Carwin connects with a nice short shot to Pete's temple. Carwin is looking for a kimura here.
Carwin slips a nice elbow through Pete's hands, connecting with Pete's forehead. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Carwin wants to control but Pete is keeping him busy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Carwin lands strikes from half guard. Pete is in trouble now - Carwin has advanced to mount! Pete wants to get back to his feet.
Carwin with shots to the head and body - Pete looks very uncomfortable down there. Pete tries to reverse the position but Carwin maintains control. Carwin dominating with strikes here. Pete tries to hold on but Carwin pushes him away. Carwin with the ground and pound from mount. Carwin controlling from mount. Carwin trying to control but he's not successful this time. Pete is bucking up trying to escape but Carwin cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Pete is squirming around, avoiding Carwin's attempts to control the action.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Carwin thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage. Pete tries to lock up and control but Carwin gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Pete blocking the ground and pound. Carwin tries to control but Pete wriggling away. Carwin throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Carwin misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Pete tries to hold on but Carwin pushes him away. Carwin looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Carwin scoring with strikes but Pete is staying in there. Carwin scoring with strikes but Pete is staying in there. Oh Pete is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Oooooh, big shot lands for Carwin! Pete is hurt baaadly! Carwin is firing away with more strikes - Pete is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!
