Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Buford Sanford! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tony Mendez! The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Gwen Towbar and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sanford tries to clinch but Mendez moves out of range. A thudding body kick lands there by Sanford!
Sanford throws a sloppy head kick and Mendez moves out of range easily. Mendez swats away the attempt to clinch by Sanford. Sanford tries to clinch up but Mendez circles away and keeps his distance. Sanford takes a swing at Mendez's ribcage but misses. Sanford fails with an attempt to clinch.
Sanford misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Sanford tries to clinch up but Mendez circles away and keeps his distance. Sanford throws a chopping leg kick but Mendez manages to avoid taking any serious damage. Sanford wants to clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sanford rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mendez moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Nice takedown defense from Mendez. No joy for Sanford on that attempt. Sanford drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Mendez tries to buck Sanford off but Sanford is having none of it. Mendez gets back to half guard. Sanford prevents Mendez from improving his position. Mendez is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Sanford's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Sanford's back! Sanford trying to control but not successfully. Mendez lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Mendez.

Mendez cracks Sanford with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Sanford from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.
Sanford is rocked! This has been an exciting period of action! Mendez is punishing Sanford with strikes - can he finish him?! Oh Sanford is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Mendez not allowing Sanford to control his hands. Sanford is breathing heavily. Mendez lands a shot to the head. Mendez is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Mendez gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Mendez gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Mendez apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Mendez forces Sanford back against the cage and clinches. Sanford seems to have got his legs back now. Mendez drops down looking for an ankle pick but Sanford pulls his leg out and moves away.
Sanford tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sanford is looking to land body kicks. Sanford tries to clinch but fails miserably and Mendez counters with a left to the body. Mendez moves in looking to clinch but Sanford pushes him off. Sanford tries to clinch up and Mendez counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Mendez. Sanford is looking to break free of the clinch but Mendez has double underhooks. Sanford stops a takedown attempt from Mendez.
Mendez has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Sanford clear over his head and slammed him to the mat! Mendez has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Mendez is landing with strikes from the back.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mendez lands a punch to the side of the head from the back. Mendez is punishing Sanford with strikes - can he finish him?! Mendez has Sanford flattened out and is raining down punches. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Mendez is scoring with a succession of shots from the back. Sanford is covering up - he's had enough and the ref steps in to end the fight!
