Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Todd Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Arnold Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Todd Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Arnold Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Steve Erwin and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
A shot to the liver by Johnson. Beautiful body shot.
Smith tries to score a power double leg takedown but Johnson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Smith somewhat.
Johnson clobbers Smith with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Smith looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Todd Smith. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Smith takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Smith breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Smith has Johnson up against the cage in a clinch.
Smith avoids the elbow strike from Johnson, against the cage.
Johnson throws a head punch that misses.

Smith gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Johnson is trying to get back to full guard.
Still in half guard, Smith seems content to control.
Johnson looks like he's trying to stand up.

Smith stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Johnson to get to his feet.
Smith fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Johnson avoids it really well and circles away.
Smith's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Johnson connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Smith scrambles back to his feet.
Smith gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

Smith closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Johnson's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smith cracks Johnson with a solid left hand.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Johnson avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Smith stands and steps away. Johnson gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Johnson misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Smith.
Smith misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Smith tries to score a power double leg takedown but Johnson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Smith somewhat.

Johnson gets caught flat footed, as Smith shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Smith wants to control from the top but Johnson keeps moving.

Smith stands and steps away. Johnson gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Smith has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Smith tries for a takedown but Johnson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smith looks for a takedown but Johnson sprawls well.
Smith is breathing heavily.
Johnson paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Johnson scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Smith doesn't seem bothered though.
Johnson dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Johnson lands an overhand right.
Smith tries to close the distance and clinch up but Johnson swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Nice sprawl there from Johnson as Smith shoots in.
Johnson throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Smith closes the distance and clinches up with Johnson, looking for a takedown. Smith pushes Johnson against the cage but Johnson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Smith walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Johnson keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Johnson dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Johnson ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Johnson changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Smith changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Johnson tries to avoid it but Smith manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Johnson to the ground. Johnson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Johnson misses with an attempted mid kick.
Smith takes one on the button.
Johnson stuffs the takedown attempt from Smith. Smith gets slowly back to his feet.
Johnson lands a two punch combo.
Smith with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Johnson to score with a decent uppercut.
Smith throws a right hand that misses
and Johnson counters with a series of strikes. Smith will be more careful next time no doubt.
Johnson stuffs the takedown.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Johnson lands an overhand right.
Johnson scores with a jab to the jaw.
Johnson feints a jab promting Smith to slip. Johnson then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Smith slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Todd Smith will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Smith gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Johnson taking a breather.

Johnson is fighting off a takedown attempt but Smith is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Johnson to the mat. Johnson regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Smith has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Smith prevents Johnson from getting back to his feet.
Johnson working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Smith.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Johnson can do anything to dispel that myth.
Smith advances to half guard.
Johnson strikes from the bottom but Smith passes into mount!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Smith landing punches.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Smith lands a nice shot to the head.
Johnson tries to lock up and control but Smith gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Smith with shots to the head and body - Johnson looks very uncomfortable down there.
Smith lands a big elbow - Johnson is in trouble! More strikes from the mount and Johnson is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Todd Smith!
