The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Penna doesn't succeed with the takedown and Savchuk counters with a nice double leg into side control. Penna won't be happy with that. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Penna is being controlled here. Penna tries to bench press Savchuk off him but Savchuk keeps the position. Savchuk working the ground and pound. Penna is looking for a sweep. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Savchuk decides to stand up, so the ref orders Penna to his feet. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Penna with a lazy takedown attempt and Savchuk counters with a stiff right hand. Penna doesn't succeed with the takedown and Savchuk counters by clinching up. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joseph Penna. That's going to take a lot out of him. Savchuk tightens his grip and picks Penna up, before dumping him to the ground. Penna manages to land in guard. Savchuk is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Savchuk tries to free his leg and advance position but Penna is retaining full guard. Penna is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Savchuk has his hands clasped together but Penna extends an breaks Savchuk's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Penna.
