Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Derek Mufflin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Scuba Steves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Derek Mufflin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Scuba Steves!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Robert Douchet and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mufflin gets a takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Steves has a hand on Mufflin's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Mufflin takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Mufflin tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Steves wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Mufflin.

You get the feeling that Steves really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Mufflin lands a heavy elbow.
Steves is looking to improve his position but Mufflin isn't that keen on the idea.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Mufflin fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Steves sprawls well initially but Mufflin persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Mufflin is taking a breather. Steves says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

That was a close second round but I would say that Derek Mufflin will probably get the nod.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Mufflin enables Steves to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mufflin manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Steves drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Mufflin dives on top into guard.
Mufflin engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Steves manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Mufflin manages to get himself to full guard.

Steves with a flurry of punches that miss.
Mufflin controlling Steves's posture.

Mufflin looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Steves postures up in Mufflin's guard and throws a big left but Mufflin blocks it.
Steves looking to sit in guard and control but Mufflin gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Mufflin not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

We're going to have a standup here because Derek Mufflin wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Steves has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Mufflin is trying to keep an underhook but Steves manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Mufflin holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

Steves is working for an americana but Mufflin has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Steves was thinking about the submission.

Steves got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mufflin has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Steves has managed to get both his arms back between Mufflin's legs - danger averted.

Steves postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Mufflin is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Steves, into his guard.
Steves controls Mufflin momentarily but Mufflin frees himself.
Derek Mufflin is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Steves takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Mufflin looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Derek Mufflin.
Well Mufflin has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
