Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Adam Rubio!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ryan Marx!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Daniel Franklin and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rubio defending well as Marx loads up on a big left hand.
Marx keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Rubio doesn't manage to clinch there - Marx circles away.
Marx throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Rubio fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Marx avoids it really well and circles away.
Rubio shoots in for a takedown but Marx shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Adam Rubio. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Marx counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

Rubio is looking to take a break and control but Marx is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Rubio is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Marx knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Marx really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rubio. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Marx parries the strikes from Rubio easily there. Rubio is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Marx to escape.

Rubio wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Marx, who protects the arm well.

Marx is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Rubio off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.

Rubio is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Marx knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Marx for a finish.

Rubio misses with an elbow to the head.

Marx is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Rubio looking to break Marx's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Marx remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Rubio will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

A slow jab from Marx misses its intended target.
Rubio throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Marx tries to score with a low kick but Rubio moves his leg out of the way.
Rubio moves in looking to clinch but Marx pushes him off.
Marx circles away from the clinch attempt
and Marx counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

and Marx counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Marx displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Rubio.

Rubio shoots and misses
and Marx connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Adam Rubio. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Rubio shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Marx napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Rubio creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Marx sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Marx is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Marx manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Rubio drops an elbow to the side of Marx's head.
Marx looks like he's trying to stand up.
Marx is in trouble now - Rubio has advanced to mount!

Marx is looking to improve his position but Rubio isn't that keen on the idea.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Rubio will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Poor strikes thrown by Rubio there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Rubio misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Rubio throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Marx because Rubio loaded up on that one.

Rubio has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Marx is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Rubio throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Poor strikes thrown by Rubio there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Rubio working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Marx looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Rubio! Submission of the night perhaps?
