PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bruce Sanders (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Xavier Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sanders comes to the cage accompanied by Enter Sand Man-Metallica. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bruce Sanders!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Xavier Mendez!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sanders feints and as Mendez raises his hands in defense, Sanders changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Sanders throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Mendez works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Sanders lands a couple of elbows.

Mendez has his foot on Sanders's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sanders works his way back into a safe position though.
Sanders in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Mendez lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Sanders!
Mendez scoring with strikes but Sanders is staying in there.


It looks like Bruce Sanders has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Sanders avoids a series of strikes thrown by Mendez.
Sanders swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sanders trying desperately to get to his feet.

Mendez wants to finish this one by submission but Sanders is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Mendez.
Sanders throwing hammer fists to the chest of Mendez. What's that going to do exactly?
Sanders swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
Mendez blocks Sanders's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Sanders is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Sanders tries to reverse the position but Mendez maintains control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mendez throwing strikes here but Sanders is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Sanders is wriggling around trying to escape.

Sanders somehow manages to escape the mount and get back to his feet!
Mendez lands a right hook to the body.
Mendez lands a nice shot to the body.
Mendez throws a nice inside leg kick.
Sanders is breathing heavily.

A big head kick from Mendez and Sanders is sent sprawling to the canvas!


Sanders is rocked!


Bruce Sanders's cut is getting worse.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Sanders tries to strike from the bottom.
Oh Sanders is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Mendez sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Mendez advances position into side control!
Sanders seems to have got his legs back now.
Mendez lands a few punches from side control.
Sanders sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Mendez throwing shots but Sanders is blocking nicely.

Sanders makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mendez dodges the punch combination from Sanders.
Mendez fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Sanders fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Sanders slips a jab and a cross from Mendez.
Sloppy strikes from Mendez. Those never looked like landing.
Mendez moves in looking to clinch but Sanders pushes him off.
Jab by Mendez.
Mendez tries to clinch but Sanders moves out of range.
Mendez will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Mendez leaves Sanders with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Mendez stuffs the takedown attempt from Sanders. Sanders gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bruce Sanders. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sanders misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The crowd cheers as Mendez lands an impressive looking overhand right. Sanders doesn't seem phased though.


Bruce Sanders's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.

Sanders ducks straight into an uppercut from Mendez and tumbles to the canvas! It’s a flash knockdown though - Sanders manages to regain guard straight away.

Mendez gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mendez throws a series of punches but Sanders moves out of range.
Sanders wants to stay close but Mendez steps back to make room for something. Sanders seems frozen to the spot and bam! huge swing of the leg from Mendez and Sanders drops like he has been shot! A huge head kick and it's all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Xavier Mendez!
