Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Suriya Sangprathum! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Louis Rodriguez! The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Eliza Hachem and John Mangel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rodriguez tries to close the distance and clinch up but Sangprathum swats him away and circles back towards the center. Rodriguez wants to clinch and Sangprathum connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Rodriguez closes the distance but Sangprathum moves to the side enabling Sangprathum to counter with a crisp jab. Rodriguez looks to clinch and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick. Rodriguez tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Sangprathum counters with a nice leg kick. Sangprathum throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Rodriguez's head. Rodriguez swings away with a leg kick that misses. Sangprathum drives through and clinches with Rodriguez against the cage.
Rodriguez using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Sangprathum has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Sangprathum keeps control of Rodriguez as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Rodriguez jumps guard but Sangprathum stands there with Rodriguez around his waist. Rodriguez gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rodriguez tries to land knees in the clinch but Sangprathum avoids the damage to the body. Sangprathum breaks the clinch.
Rodriguez fails with a takedown attempt. Rodriguez is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Rodriguez tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Sangprathum manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Rodriguez is looking to clinch but Sangprathum is avoiding it.
Rodriguez throws a leg kick that misses. Louis Rodriguez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Sangprathum closes the distance and clinches. Sangprathum gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head. Rodriguez jumps guard but Sangprathum stands there with Rodriguez around his waist. Rodriguez gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Suriya Sangprathum has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Louis Rodriguez. Rodriguez takes a knee right on the jaw!

That's two minutes gone in the round. Rodriguez lands a good knee to the midsection. Sangprathum won't want to take too many of those. Sangprathum missing with knees to the body.

Rodriguez tries to circle away but Sangprathum has him pinned against the cage. Rodriguez trying to land knees to the body.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Rodriguez. Sangprathum tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Rodriguez throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Sangprathum blocks it with crossed arms. Sangprathum breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. This has been an exciting period of action! Sangprathum motions for Rodriguez to come forward. Sangprathum throws a leg kick but it misses it's target. Rodriguez tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Sangprathum counters with a good, hard body kick but Rodriguez shrugs it off. A chopping leg kick lands by Rodriguez.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sangprathum gets in close and instigates a clinch. Sangprathum lands an elbow that stopped Rodriguez in his tracks for a moment. Rodriguez tries to land a knee to the head but Sangprathum blocks with his arms.

Sangprathum comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush. Rodriguez connects with a nasty looking knee right to Sangprathum's face.
Sangprathum lands a nice elbow. Good anti-grappling being displayed by Sangprathum as Rodriguez tries to tie him up. Rodriguez is trying to pull guard but Sangprathum has him pressed against the cage. Sangprathum stalling against the cage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sangprathum comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush. Rodriguez goes for a takedown in the clinch but Sangprathum prevents it.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Rodriguez is struggling to control the position. Rodriguez throws a knee to the head but misses.
Sangprathum gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head. Sangprathum taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Rodriguez pulls guard. Sangprathum has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Rodriguez is looking to sinch up a triangle. Sangprathum throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Rodriguez's body to avoid the submission. Rodriguez has instead reached around Sangprathum's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Rodriguez arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Louis Rodriguez! A less than humble Louis Rodriguez misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
