PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ted Coke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cory McDanver (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Coke comes into the arena with Cocaine blaring out of the sound system. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ted Coke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Cory McDanver!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McDanver shoots for a takedown but Coke saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
McDanver fails to land the takedown.
Coke wants to clinch.
Coke slaps away a takedown attempt from McDanver, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Ted Coke has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cory McDanver.
A cross from Coke lands.
Coke with a nice cross.
McDanver tries to score a power double leg takedown but Coke sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten McDanver somewhat.
McDanver tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Coke manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
McDanver tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Coke swivels and escapes.
McDanver fails with an attempt to clinch.
McDanver misses with a takedown attempt - Coke sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
McDanver shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Coke as he avoids it easily.

McDanver takes one to the side of the head.
McDanver tries to clinch up but Coke circles away and keeps his distance.
Coke stuffs the takedown attempt from McDanver. McDanver gets slowly back to his feet.
McDanver gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Coke.
Cory McDanver seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Coke lands a lovely overhand right.

Coke drives through and clinches with McDanver against the cage.
Coke manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Coke is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but McDanver is keeping busy.
McDanver is looking for a takedown.
McDanver is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Coke to keep the fight standing.

McDanver pulls guard effortlessly.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McDanver lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Coke!

Coke on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Coke tries to get out of the position.

McDanver throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Coke is in a horrible position here. McDanver smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
McDanver throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Coke is looking to improve his position but McDanver isn't that keen on the idea.

Poor strikes thrown by McDanver there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

McDanver is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Coke can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
McDanver thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

That's time! Coke's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Coke fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. McDanver looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Coke throws a series of punches but McDanver avoids them all with ease.
A jab from Coke finds it's way through McDanver's defenses.
McDanver shoots in but no luck this time.

Coke keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Coke goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Coke tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but McDanver paws at him with a jab and circles away.

and Coke cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

McDanver shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Coke defends it nicely.

Coke scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

McDanver on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
McDanver shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Coke pinned against the cage. Coke gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
McDanver tries to clinch but Coke is having none of it.
McDanver gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Coke.
Coke misses with a few strikes there.
Coke fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Coke closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. McDanver did well to prevent Coke getting side control.

McDanver is squirming around, avoiding Coke's attempts to control the action.

Coke postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. McDanver looks a forlorn figure.
Coke is landing with some decent strikes but McDanver is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
McDanver manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
McDanver is keen to just control but Coke is a slippery customer.
Coke tries to roll over but McDanver keeps him under control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

McDanver is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Coke is trying to improve his position.
McDanver has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
McDanver creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Coke sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

McDanver tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Coke gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
McDanver prevents Coke from getting the reversal.

Coke is bucking up trying to escape but McDanver cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

You get the feeling that Coke really doesn't like being in this position too much.

McDanver wants to finish this one by submission but Coke is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from McDanver.

McDanver is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Coke is surviving well by controlling McDanver's body position as best he can.

Cory McDanver comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think McDanver has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
