Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lance Burns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bas Rutten (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bas Rutten is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lance Burns! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bas Rutten! The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Franklyn Lucas and Bruno Lombardi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice defenses there by Rutten. Rutten misses with the combination.
Burns shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Rutten as he avoids it easily. Burns shoots in for a double leg but Rutten sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Burns misses with a takedown attempt - Rutten sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lance Burns. That's going to take a lot out of him. Rutten avoids the head kick by Burns.
Rutten throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Burns with a lazy takedown attempt and Rutten counters with a shoot takedown. Burns fights it but they end up in guard. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Rutten trying to control the position from guard on top but Burns is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Rutten stopping the sweep attempt from Burns. Rutten is stalling in the full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Burns keeping moving, preventing Rutten from controlling successfully. Rutten drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rutten jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Burns looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Burns not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Rutten trying to control the position from guard on top but Burns is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Burns is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Rutten trying to control but Burns is working from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rutten postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Burns is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Rutten, into his guard. Rutten throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Burns has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Rutten keeping moving, preventing Burns from controlling successfully. Rutten working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Burns doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Burns manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Burns tries to free his leg and advance position but Rutten is retaining full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Burns won't allow Rutten to sweep him here. Rutten looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Rutten looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Burns is defending well. Rutten quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Burns has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Rutten celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Bas Rutten! Bas Rutten made sure to give a little speech post fight, saying 'never stop believe in me'.
