Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Fred Alexander! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Viktor Iranovichk! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Luis Engracia and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Iranovichk takes the fight into the clinch. Iranovichk wants a takedown.
Iranovichk tries to land knees in the clinch but Alexander avoids the damage to the body. Iranovichk tries to score a body lock takedown but Alexander shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Alexander has clasped his hands together around Iranovichk's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Alexander wants to control for a moment but Iranovichk uses the opportunity to move back to half guard. Iranovichk wants to control but Alexander passes into side.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Alexander working away. Alexander working the head with strikes. Alexander controlling the position. You can see the frustration on Iranovichk's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alexander is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Alexander trying to control the position but Iranovichk is working away. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Alexander stands up and beckons Iranovichk to his feet. Alexander closes this distance looking for a takedown but Iranovichk circles away. Alexander circles away from the clinch attempt.
Alexander fails with a takedown attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Iranovichk drives through with a takedown into guard. Alexander has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Iranovichk can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Iranovichk postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Iranovichk not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Iranovichk trying to control but Alexander is working from the bottom. Alexander looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Iranovichk working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Iranovichk throws a big right hand that misses. Iranovichk wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Alexander's closed guard. He's half up but Alexander has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Alexander pivots and extends the arm, Iranovichk falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Alexander! Well done that man!
