PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hunter Hearst Hogan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ricky Robinson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hogan comes to the cage accompanied by The Game. Robinson has chosen Blur - Song 2 Remix as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Ricky Robinson told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Hunter Hearst Hogan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 12 - 0, fighting out of London, Ricky Robinson! The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, William Gold and Colin Fotheringham.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! No luck with that takedown attempt from Hogan. Robinson's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Robinson duly obliges.
It looks like Hunter Hearst Hogan has been cut. Hogan fails with the takedown. A telegraphed right hand from Robinson misses the target. Robinson missing with a left hand there. Hogan was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Hogan closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Hogan lands in his opponent's guard. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Robinson not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Hogan is looking to work some ground and pound but Robinson has wrist control. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Hogan lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Hogan trying to control the position from guard on top but Robinson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Hogan is working Robinson over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Robinson keeping moving, preventing Hogan from controlling successfully. Hogan with a flurry of punches that miss. Hogan has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hogan forces his way into half guard. Robinson is trying to stand.

Hogan is looking to advance position but Robinson won't allow it. Hogan is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Robinson sees it coming and defends easily. Robinson is looking to control Hogan's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Robinson avoid being mounted? Hogan wants to pass to mount but Robinson is defending the position. Hogan looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Robinson with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hogan scores with a couple of good hammerfists. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hogan working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Hogan is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Robinson sees it coming and defends easily. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Robinson is pressing down on Hogan's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Robinson is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hogan is controlling him. Hogan throwing strikes from guard but Robinson blocks nicely. Hogan postures up.
Robinson wants to sweep here but Hogan controlling him for the moment. Hogan drops back looking for a leg! Robinson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Robinson manages to kick Hogan off! Hogan jumps back into Robinson's guard. Hogan trying to control but Robinson is working from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Robinson utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Robinson wants to stand and escape but Hogan is having none of it. Hogan looking to pass the guard. Hogan trying to control the position from guard on top but Robinson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Hogan scoring with punches to the head and body. Hogan's corner is telling him to maintain position. Hogan is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Robinson is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Robinson has escaped and now he's on top! Robinson forces his way into half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hogan gets back to full guard.
Hogan might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Robinson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hogan has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Robinson has managed to get both his arms back between Hogan's legs - danger averted. Robinson trying to control but Hogan is working from the bottom. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Robinson tries to stand but Hogan is controlling from the bottom. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Hogan is looking to sinch up a triangle. Robinson throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Hogan's body to avoid the submission. Hogan has instead reached around Robinson's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Hogan arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
