Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Steven Stepp! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Mason Churcher! The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Paul Tew and Donald Grub.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Good exchange - Stepp coming out on top. Stepp shoots in looking for a takedown. Churcher tries to sprawl out of it but Stepp keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Churcher manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. A nice inside leg kick there by Churcher. That's going to slow Stepp down. Stepp misses with a takedown attempt and Stepp takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Churcher lands a body shot.
Churcher tests Stepp's chin there with a solid looking shot. Stepp fails miserably with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Steven Stepp. That's going to take a lot out of him. Churcher slaps away a takedown attempt from Stepp, before circling back to the center of the mat. Stepp with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Churcher to score with a decent uppercut. Churcher stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Churcher wants it to stay on the feet. Stepp fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Churcher throws a looping overhand right but Stepp ducks down to avoid it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Churcher cracks Stepp with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. No luck for Stepp with that takedown attempt. Churcher throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Churcher pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Churcher misses the jab. Churcher steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Stepp. Stepp shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Churcher pinned against the cage. Churcher gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Stepp throws a hook but Churcher avoids it easily. Stepp misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Churcher misses with the combination.
Stepp uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Churcher.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Stepp shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Churcher looks like he's trying to stand up.
Ground and pound from Stepp. This has been an exciting period of action! Churcher wants to get back to his feet. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Churcher can do anything to dispel that myth. Stepp lands strikes from half guard. Churcher taking some punishment here, with Stepp in his half guard. Stepp is nestled in close to Churcher, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Churcher tries to kick Stepp off but Stepp keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Stepp passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Churcher! Stepp lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Churcher looks gassed!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Stepp raining down shots from the mount! Churcher is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Stepp landing strikes, looking to finish! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The referee warns Churcher that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Stepp lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Churcher is rocked! Stepp lands a heavy shot. That's hurt Churcher! Stepp sees the opportunity and turns up the heat - strike after strike land to the defenseless Churcher and the ref dives in to save him! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:51 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Steven Stepp! After winning the bout, Steven Stepp thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
