Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mark Henry! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mauricio Rua! The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Radbod Blank and Nard Betker.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rua takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
It looks like Mauricio Rua has been cut. Rua with a poor takedown letting Henry counter with a right hand. Henry misses with an uppercut. Rua saw that one coming. Henry looks to land a left hand but Rua moved out of range nicely. Henry swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Rua misses with a takedown attempt and Henry counters with a left hand that sends Rua to the canvas!
Rua is rocked! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Rua looking to control.
Henry knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rua on the ground. Henry scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Rua is still in real trouble! Can Henry finish him? Henry scoring with punches to the head and body. Henry throws a big right hand that misses. Henry looking to sit in guard and control but Rua gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Rua seems to have recovered his senses. Rua tries to free his leg and advance position but Henry is retaining full guard. Henry on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Henry tries to get out of the position. Henry is adopting a defensive guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rua wants to control from the top but Henry keeps moving. Henry avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Rua has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Henry is proving hard to escape from. Rua throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Rua sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Henry's guard. Rua wants to take a breather but Henry is having none of it. Rua missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Henry is staying active underneath Rua, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Rua seems to be looking for submissions.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Rua prevents Henry from improving his position. Rua trying to control from half guard but Henry is working away. Henry is trying to get back to full guard. Rua controlling the action here. Rua is thwarting Henry's attempts to control the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rua seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Rua maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Henry could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Rua has cracked it and Henry is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Rua!
