Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Oduvaldo Pereira! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Andrew Jackson! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Leandro Rodrigues and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jackson moves into the clinch. Pereira wants to get back to striking at distance but Jackson won't allow it.
Jackson stops a takedown attempt from Pereira.
Jackson gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Jackson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Pereira wants to stand but Jackson is controlling the position. Jackson advances position into side control! Jackson tries to advance to mount but can't. Jackson trying to control the position but Pereira is working away. Pereira being controlled for a moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pereira is not content to let Jackson control the position. Jackson is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Pereira's shoulder. That is not cool. Pereira takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Jackson tries to advance to mount but Pereira denies him. Jackson working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Pereira tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jackson is in the full mount, landing strikes. Jackson tries to control but Pereira wriggling away.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Jackson has hold of Pereira's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Pereira manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Jackson breaks from Pereira's wrist control and lands an elbow. Jackson looking to control and managing it successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. You get the feeling that Pereira really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Jackson controlling his opponent. Jackson swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Andrew Jackson!
