Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Edward Hochmeyer! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Captain Blood! The judges for this bout are , and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hochmeyer tries for a takedown but Blood sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Blood tries to close the distance and clinch but Hochmeyer swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Hochmeyer shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Blood pinned against the cage. Blood gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Edward Hochmeyer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Hochmeyer scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Blood manages to escape and get back to his feet! Blood has a takedown stuffed. Blood changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hochmeyer looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Blood working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Hochmeyer tries to buck Blood off but Blood is having none of it. Blood advances nicely into full mount. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hochmeyer could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Hochmeyer swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Blood landing strikes, looking to finish! Hochmeyer is trying to reverse the position but instead Blood has taken his back - oops! Hochmeyer trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble. Hochmeyer tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell! Hochmeyer might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Hochmeyer is breathing heavily. Blood takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Blood is trying to stand up but he's being controlled by his opponent.

Blood looking for a guillotine from mount but Hochmeyer is having none of it. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Hochmeyer is trying to reverse the position but instead Blood has taken his back - oops! Blood has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Blood is persistently looking for the submission but Hochmeyer is defending it well.
You can see the frustration on Hochmeyer's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Captain Blood dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Hochmeyer drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Hochmeyer postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Hochmeyer postures up.
Hochmeyer trying to control but Blood is working from the bottom. Blood is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Hochmeyer is in close to Blood's body, working some short punches and elbows. Hochmeyer trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Blood tries to land a sweep but no joy. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Hochmeyer trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Hochmeyer looks for a takedown but Blood sprawls well. Hochmeyer drives through with a takedown into guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Blood lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Hochmeyer! Edward Hochmeyer overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Blood blocks Hochmeyer's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom. Hochmeyer tries to get back to half guard but can't. Hochmeyer throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing. Hochmeyer keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Hochmeyer is looking for a sweep. Blood is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Hochmeyer gets full guard. Hochmeyer is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Hochmeyer is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Hochmeyer wants to improve his position but instead Blood has moved into half guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground. Hochmeyer looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Hochmeyer thows a huge punch but Blood dodges it nicely.

Hochmeyer postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Hochmeyer keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Blood's head. Hochmeyer wants to control from the top but Blood keeps moving. Hochmeyer working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
