PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between James Jorge (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ferdinand Hardnegger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jorge comes into the arena with Back in black blaring out of the sound system. The crowd seem to be enjoying Hardnegger's choice of entrance music: Iron Maiden - Fear Of The Dark . Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, James Jorge!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ferdinand Hardnegger!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Leandro Rodrigues and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jorge lunges at Hardnegger with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Hardnegger's hand.


It looks like Ferdinand Hardnegger has been cut.
Jorge misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Jorge fails to land the takedown.
Hardnegger uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Jorge.
Jorge throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Hardnegger staying out of range there.
Hardnegger shoots in looking for a takedown. Jorge tries to sprawl out of it but Hardnegger keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Jorge manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Jorge throws an ugly left hook that misses

and Hardnegger counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Jorge!

Jorge holds on to Hardnegger as tight as he can, avoiding damage.
Jorge tries to reverse the position but Hardnegger maintains control.
Jorge wants to try and get back to his feet.
Jorge keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Jorge tries to lock up and control but Hardnegger gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Hardnegger throws some wild stikes that Jorge manages to avoid easily.
Jorge can't escape the position.
Jorge manages to regain half guard whilst avoiding the strikes.
Jorge is looking to improve his position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. James Jorge wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Hardnegger shoots for a double leg takedown but Jorge sprawls well. He's pushed Hardnegger's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Jorge throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Jorge shoots for a takedown but Hardnegger saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Jorge shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hardnegger pinned against the cage. Hardnegger gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

and Hardnegger counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jorge is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Hardnegger trying to control the position from guard on top but Jorge is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that James Jorge will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Ferdinand Hardnegger's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Jorge throws a lazy uppercut

and Hardnegger counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Jorge's guard now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hardnegger throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Jorge works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Jorge is looking to sweep but instead, Hardnegger has passed into half guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Jorge is on top in guard.

Jorge wants to stand and escape but instead Hardnegger has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Hardnegger is standing up over Jorge. Jorge looks to escape but Hardnegger dives into side control.
Jorge manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Jorge wants to control but Hardnegger is keeping him busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jorge decides to stand and escape the position.
Jorge changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hardnegger tries to avoid it but Jorge manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hardnegger to the ground. Hardnegger escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up because James Jorge just wasn't active enough.
Hardnegger fails with a takedown attempt.
Hardnegger uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Jorge.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Hardnegger moves out of range as Jorge strikes.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of James Jorge.

Hardnegger moves forwards but Jorge connects with a nice, crisp jab.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to James Jorge.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Jorge, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
