Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Poor Matt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, James Begeman!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Igor Prikhodko and Fedor Mirinova.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matt shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Begeman throws a sloppy head kick
and Matt counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Begeman tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Matt looking to sit in guard and control but Begeman gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Matt preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Matt wants to stand and escape but Begeman is having none of it.
Begeman with a flurry of punches that miss.
Begeman looking to sit in guard and control but Matt gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Begeman seems keen to control Matt's posture.
Begeman wants to get back to his feet but Matt is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Begeman preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Matt looking to pass the guard.
Begeman is looking to stand up but Matt isn't so interested in that idea.
Matt throws a strike but Begeman rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Begeman avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Begeman looking to pass the guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Matt is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Begeman stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Matt swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Matt has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Begeman off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Good standup being displayed there by Begeman as he connects with a hook.
Poor Matt seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Matt on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Begeman. Begeman obviously looking to wear him down.
Begeman uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Matt.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
Matt feints and then cracks Begeman's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Begeman down.
Begeman moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
It looks like Poor Matt has been cut.
Matt tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Matt throws a leg kick which misses Begeman's front leg but catches the back leg as Begeman tries to avoid it.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Begeman looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Begeman fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Matt has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Matt throws a low kick but Begeman avoids it.
Begeman cracks Matt with an open hand slap.
Matt shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Matt is breathing heavily.
Matt looks to land a right hand but Begeman moved out of range.
Matt moves away from the strike by Begeman.
That's four minutes gone in the round.
Matt throws a leg kick
and Begeman counters with a body kick that stops Matt in his tracks momentarily.
Begeman cracks Matt with a big right hand and Matt goes down!
Matt is rocked!
Begeman drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Begeman jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Oh Matt is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Begeman gets to his feet. Matt looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Nice body kick there by Begeman.
Matt seems to have got his legs back now.
Begeman pushes Matt away with a front kick.
Begeman misses with a few strikes there.
A bone on bone clash there as Begeman blocks the leg kick.
Begeman throws a sloppy head kick and Matt moves out of range easily.
Matt shoots in looking for a takedown but Begeman manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Matt's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Begeman lands a leg kick that knocks Matt off balance momentarily.
Begeman tries to score with a low kick but Matt moves his leg out of the way.
Begeman throws a nice outside leg kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
James Begeman dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Poor Matt's cut.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Begeman stuffs the takedown attempt from Matt. Matt gets slowly back to his feet.
James Begeman is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
An inside leg kick lands from Begeman.
Begeman looks for the body kick but Matt saw that one coming.
