PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Bob Hunt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Torto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bob Hunt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jimmy Torto!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Jonathan Paton and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hunt tries a head kick but it misses.
Hunt pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Torto throws a low kick, looking for Hunt's leg but Hunt calmly moves out of range.
Torto throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Hunt enables Torto to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Hunt manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Hunt is looking to stand up but Torto isn't so interested in that idea.
Hunt is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Torto looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Torto postures up.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Bob Hunt has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Hunt tries a head kick but it misses.
Hunt throws a sloppy head kick and Torto moves out of range easily.
Hunt misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Torto shoots in and gets a takedown into Hunt's guard.
Hunt trying to control the position.
Hunt avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Torto wants to pass the guard but Hunt is keeping the position.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Hunt has his foot on Torto's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Torto works his way back into a safe position though.

Torto decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Hunt throws a head kick but Torto moves out of range.

Torto throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Hunt was covering up waiting for the punch and Torto finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Torto is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Torto is standing up over Hunt. Hunt looks to escape but Torto dives into side control.

Torto decides to take the fight back to the feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hunt tries to clinch

and Torto counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Torto.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Torto is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Tortois looking to pass into half guard but Hunt pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Hunt is in guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hunt wants to stand but Torto is controlling his posture from full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hunt fails with a takedown attempt.
Torto blocks a head kick by Hunt.

Torto rushes Hunt and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Hunt is looking to break free of the clinch but Torto has double underhooks.

Torto breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Torto looks to land a combination. Hunt sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Hunt fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Torto fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Hunt sprawls well initially but Torto persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Torto content to control rather than advance.

Hunt is looking to control Torto's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Hunt avoid being mounted?
Hunt wants to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Torto wants to pass the guard but Hunt is defending well.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Torto postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Hunt to stand up.

Hunt tries to clinch up but Torto circles away and keeps his distance.
Hunt throws a head kick that misses

and Torto holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Torto lands a nice uppercut.
Hunt has had enough of the clinch but Torto keeps him there for the moment.

Torto tightens his grip and picks Hunt up, before dumping him to the ground. Hunt manages to land in guard.
Torto is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Torto must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Hunt wants to stand but Torto is controlling the position.

Torto decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Hunt, up you get!

Torto finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Hunt plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Torto misses with an attempted mid kick.
Torto is breathing heavily.

Hunt gets caught napping as Torto dives in and scores a takedown. Hunt manages to retain guard.

Hunt tries to bench press Torto off him but Torto keeps the position.

Hunt wants to get back to his feet but Torto drags him back down.
Hunt is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Torto in side control, just content to control the action for now.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Jimmy Torto showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

and Torto counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Torto is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Hunt tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

and Torto counters with a single leg into guard. Hunt didn't expect that.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Torto stands up and waves to Hunt to follow him.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Torto had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Hunt defends it easily.
Hunt loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Hunt wants to control from the top but Torto keeps moving.
Torto has a closed guard, preventing Hunt from standing up.

Torto pushes Hunt off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Hunt throws a push kick but Torto slaps the foot to one side.

Jimmy Torto comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Torto has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
