PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Bryan Adams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Samoa Joe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Joe comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Sitting Sideways kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Bryan Adams!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Samoa Joe!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Roosa Järviläinen and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Adams stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Joe.
Joe keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Joe avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Adams closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Adams digs a right hand underneath Joe's ribcage. Joe let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Adams throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Adams lands on the inside with an uppercut.
A frustrated look appears on Joe's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Joe lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Joe is working for a kimura but Adams is defending it quite comfortably.
Adams is looking to control Joe's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Adams avoid being mounted?

That's one minute gone in the round.
Adams tries to kick Joe off but Joe keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Adams wants to control the action here but instead Joe manages to pass to full mount!
Adams is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Joe misses with a head shot.
Adams takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Joe has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Poor strikes thrown by Joe there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Joe lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Joe trying to control but Adams is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Joe swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Adams is now in Joe's guard. A big mistake from Joe there, giving up the dominant position!

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Joe is working an open guard so Adams takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Joe moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Adams attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Joe scores with a nice right hand.

Adams misses with a body shot.
Adams tries to clinch up.

Joe dives in and scores a takedown into Adams's guard.
Adams avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Adams will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Joe working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Joe throwing strikes from guard but Adams blocks nicely.
Adams is trying to keep Joe in close.
Joe keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Adams's head.

Joe throws a big elbow that misses.
Joe trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Joe is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Joe moves out of range as Adams strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Samoa Joe dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Adams comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Adams swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Joe counters with a three punch combo that has Adams backing up. Adams nods at Joe to acknowledge the strikes.
Joe misses with an uppercut
and Adams counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Joe slips under a jab.
Joe is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Adams.
Joe connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Adams momentarily.
Adams looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Joe connects with a body shot.

Joe gets tackled into the cage by Adams. Adams maintains the clinch.

Adams tries to work over Joe's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Adams struggles to land a body shot inside as Joe controls his hands.
Adams stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Joe's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Bryan Adams is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Adams ducks under a wild hook from Joe.

Good anti-grappling being displayed by Joe as Adams tries to tie him up.

Joe pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Joe catches Adams with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Adams darts in and clinches Joe up against the cage.
Joe is looking to take this one to the mat.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Adams as Joe tries to tie him up.
Adams lands an elbow that stopped Joe in his tracks for a moment.
Joe can't break the clinch.

Joe has had enough of the clinch but Adams keeps him there for the moment.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

That was a close second round but I would say that Bryan Adams will probably get the nod.

Joe shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Adams defends it nicely.
Adams tries to clinch up but Joe circles away and keeps his distance.
Adams with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Adams stuffs the takedown.
Adams throws a predictable looking body shot
and Joe cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Joe throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Adams rushes Joe and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Joe can't break the clinch.
Joe blocks a body shot from Adams.
Adams misses with a body punch.
Adams throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Joe being controlled against the cage.
Adams misses with the head strike.
Joe blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Adams obliges.
Come on Adams - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Joe wants to get back to striking at distance but Adams won't allow it.
Adams pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Adams for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.

The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Bryan Adams.
Adams slips under a jab from Joe.
Joe with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Adams to score with a decent uppercut.
Joe fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Bryan Adams has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Samoa Joe.
Joe throws a leg kick
and Adams counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Adams fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Joe manages to avoid it.
Adams takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Adams fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Adams wants to clinch.

Joe moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Joe ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Adams moves away.
Adams lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Adams misses with a body shot.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Joe throws a chopping leg kick but Adams manages to avoid taking any serious damage.

Joe moves into the clinch successfully.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bryan Adams showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Adams has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
