Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bob Ferdinand (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Unitas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bob Ferdinand!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, David Unitas!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Steve Montenegro and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ferdinand doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Unitas decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Ferdinand's guard.

Ferdinand working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Unitas doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Unitas manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Unitas wants to pass the guard but Ferdinand is keeping the position.

Unitas wants to control from the top but Ferdinand keeps moving.
Unitas pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ferdinand is keeping the position for now.

Ferdinand is looking to control Unitas's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Ferdinand avoid being mounted?
Unitas wants to take a breather but Ferdinand is having none of it.

Unitas is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Unitas stands and throws Ferdinand's legs to the side, diving into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Unitas looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Ferdinand is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Unitas has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Unitas tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Unitas has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Ferdinand gets back to half guard.
Ferdinand has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Unitas is working away from the top position though.

Unitas is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Ferdinand is trying to stand.
Unitas thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Unitas prevents Ferdinand from standing back up.
Unitas wants to control but Ferdinand is keeping him busy.
Unitas frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Unitas working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Unitas trying to control but he's not successful this time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ferdinand is looking to get to half guard.
Ferdinand tries to hold on but Unitas pushes him away.
Ferdinand is trying desperately to improve position.
Unitas looking to control but Ferdinand is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Unitas throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Ferdinand because Unitas loaded up on that one.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The referee warns Ferdinand that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Unitas looking to control but Ferdinand is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Unitas dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Unitas throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Ferdinand's waist but Ferdinand gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Unitas off to one side.
Ferdinand shoots in looking for a takedown but Unitas manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Ferdinand's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

and Unitas counters with a single leg into guard. Ferdinand didn't expect that.
Unitas trying to control the position from guard on top but Ferdinand is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ferdinand is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Unitas is looking to get back to is feet but Ferdinand passes into side control.
Ferdinand throwing strikes but Unitas manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!

Unitas tries for a kimura but Ferdinand is defending well.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Unitas swings around for an armbar but Ferdinand sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Unitas's guard.
David Unitas has got the better of the ground game so far.

Ferdinand chips away with some ground and pound.
Ferdinand stops Unitas from standing up.
Ferdinand postures up in Unitas's guard and throws a big left but Unitas blocks it.
Ferdinand tries to free his leg and advance position but Unitas is retaining full guard.
Unitas is looking to stand up but Ferdinand isn't so interested in that idea.
Ferdinand trying to control but Unitas is working from the bottom.

Ferdinand postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Unitas is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Ferdinand, into his guard.

Unitas throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Ferdinand is looking for a triangle but Unitas pushes his legs off easily.
Unitas looking to sit in guard and control but Ferdinand gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Unitas is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Ferdinand dives into side control.
Unitas parries the strikes from Ferdinand easily there. Ferdinand is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Unitas to escape.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Unitas wants to get back to his feet.
Unitas is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Ferdinand is looking for a kimura but Unitas is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ferdinand to get the leverage.

Ferdinand is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Ferdinand is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Unitas doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Ferdinand.

Ferdinand seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Unitas does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Unitas has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ferdinand is working away from the top position though.
Ferdinand working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close second round but I would say that Bob Ferdinand will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Ferdinand fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Ferdinand shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Unitas sprawls well. Unitas wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Ferdinand gets slowly back to his feet.

Unitas closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Unitas lands in his opponent's guard.

Unitas drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Ferdinand manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Unitas has Ferdinand in his guard.

Unitas escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ferdinand gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Unitas looking to improve position, pressing down on Ferdinand's thigh with his hand. Ferdinand seems to be working to lock up a guilotine though... is Unitas paying attention? Apparently not! He's locked it up tight! Unitas's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Ferdinand picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!
