PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bubba Tep (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Dux (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tep's entrance music is You're the Best Around. A fine choice. Dux comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Indestructible kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bubba Tep!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Frank Dux!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Winston Howard and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tep fails with a takedown attempt.
A jab-cross combination lands for Dux and sends Tep crashing to the mat! Dux follows him down to the mat - Tep regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!


Tep is rocked!


It looks like Bubba Tep has been cut.
Tep tries to roll over but Dux keeps him under control.
Tep is trying to stand.
Tep wants to get back to full guard but Dux has mounted him!
Tep is trying desperately to improve position.
Dux controlling the pace for now.
Tep is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

Dux takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tep tries to hold on but Dux postures up.
Dux tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Tep tries to reverse the position but Dux maintains control.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Dux controlling his opponent.
Tep tries to lock up and control but Dux gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Tep is desperately trying to improve his position but Dux has a good base and remains in mount.
Dux takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Tep is trying to escape the mount.
Dux looking to control and managing it successfully.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Dux wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.
Tep regains half guard.

Tep is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Dux pulls his head out easily.
Tep is breathing heavily.
Dux tries to stand but can't do so whilst Tep controls his leg.

Tep actively working from the bottom here.
Tep tries to roll over but Dux keeps him under control.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Tep is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Dux's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Dux's back!
Dux just trying to survive but Tep is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

Dux biding his time here by controlling the hands, looking to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dux trying to get back to his feet but Tep is in full control for now.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Tep tries to get the hooks in deep but Dux pushed the leg off.
Dux trying to control the position but Tep manages to sink in the hooks.
Tep punches the canvas rather than the man.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Dux throws an overhand right that lands on Tep's shoulder, as Tep tries to avoid the shot.
Tep shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Dux misses the shot to the body.
Dux takes a swing at Tep's ribcage but misses.
Frank Dux seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tep displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Dux throws out the jab.
Tep moves in looking to clinch but Dux pushes him off.
Tep takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Tep blocks a head kick by Dux.
Tep uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Dux.
A swing and a miss from Dux.
Tep tries for a takedown but Dux sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Dux bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Tep's head.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Dux dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Dux looks to land a combination but Tep avoids it well.
Dux stuffs the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bubba Tep. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Tep fails with an attempt to clinch.

Tep bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Tep stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Dux tries to bum rush Tep with a series of wild strikes but Tep uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Dux misses with a straight left.

Tep rushes Dux and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
A hook to the body from Tep.
Tep prevents Dux from breaking the clinch.
Dux is looking to break free of the clinch but Tep has double underhooks.

Tep has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Dux uses from the top position.
Tep has a closed guard, preventing Dux from standing up.

Tep working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Dux doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Dux manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Tep is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Dux really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Tep. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Tep misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Tep is trying to maintain the position but Dux is very close to passing his half guard.
Dux prevents Tep from improving his position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Dux connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Tep tries for a takedown but Dux sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Tep looks for a takedown but Dux sprawls well.
Tep fails with the takedown.
Tep tries to close the distance and clinch but Dux swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Dux keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Dux throws a sloppy head kick and Tep moves out of range easily.
Tep tries to clinch but Dux is having none of it.
Tep doesn't manage to clinch there - Dux circles away.
Tep shoots in but no luck this time.
Tep avoids a punch combination nicely.
Tep takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Tep shoots for a takedown but Dux saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Tep slips a jab and a cross from Dux.
Tep tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Dux swivels and escapes.
Dux swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Tep.
Dux waving his hands out infront of him, looking to distract Tep.
Dux thows a body shot but no joy.
Dux sizes up Tep with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank Dux showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!



Tep has managed to clinch.
Dux is looking to control Tep's arms but Tep gets an underhook and turns him. Now Dux has his back to the cage.
Dux misses with a body punch.

Tep is trying to trip Dux. He has hold of a leg but Dux is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Tep persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Tep trying to control but Dux is working from the bottom.
Tep advances position into side control!

Tep wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Dux, who protects the arm well.

Tep is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Dux is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Dux is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Dux is not content to let Tep control the position.
Dux is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Tep off and has taken his back!

Dux is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Dux lands strikes to the head.
Dux just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Tep tries to escape but Dux has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Dux doesn't have the hooks in and Tep manages to turn into his guard.
Dux avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Tep thows a big elbow that misses.
Tep advances to half guard.
Tep throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Tep scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Tep is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Dux doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Tep.
Bubba Tep has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Tep is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Dux is just riding it out for now. Tep eventually gives up the hold.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bubba Tep showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Dux has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
