Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Aleksandr Fedorov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Niwa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fedorov comes to the cage accompanied by http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8kANB2XBYU&feature=related. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Aleksandr Fedorov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Michael Niwa! The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Kenichi Hosakawa and Hirohito Nitta.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Niwa bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Fedorov tries to bench press Niwa off him but Niwa keeps the position. Niwa stands up. Fedorov shoots in but Niwa avoids the takedown attempt easily. Michael Niwa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Fedorov fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Niwa to the ground. Fedorov is now in Niwa's guard. Fedorov not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Niwa is looking for a triangle but Fedorov pushes his legs off easily.
Fedorov got a little sloppy there for a moment and Niwa has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Fedorov has managed to get both his arms back between Niwa's legs - danger averted. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Fedorov avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fedorov throwing strikes from guard but Niwa blocks nicely. Fedorov is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Niwa escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Fedorov gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Fedorov controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Fedorov lands a couple of elbows. Fedorov looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Aleksandr Fedorov. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Fedorov. Fedorov shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Niwa defends it nicely. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Aleksandr Fedorov. That's going to take a lot out of him. Niwa throws the left hand but Fedorov avoids the punch easily. Niwa misses with a lunging right hand
and Fedorov makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. A big right from Niwa misses.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fedorov fails with the takedown and Niwa cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Niwa fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Niwa throws out a loose jab but Fedorov uses good head movement to avoid it. Fedorov gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Niwa counters with a lovely straight right hand! Fedorov keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Niwa ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Fedorov moves away. Fedorov manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Niwa on his heels. He'll look to pass Niwa's guard now, I'm sure. Fedorov slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Niwa is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Niwa is trying to work for a kimura but Fedorov is defending well.
Fedorov moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Niwa gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Michael Niwa will probably get the nod. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Fedorov fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Fedorov tries to clinch but Niwa moves out of range. Niwa closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Fedorov's guard. Niwa stopping the sweep attempt from Fedorov. Fedorov manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Niwa manages to get himself to full guard.
Niwa wants to stand up but Fedorov is controlling him. Fedorov trying to control the position from guard on top but Niwa is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Niwa is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fedorov controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Fedorov wants to control from the top but Niwa keeps moving. Niwa looking for a guillotine here but Fedorov defends easily.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Aleksandr Fedorov just wasn't active enough. Fedorov shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Niwa defends it nicely. That's two minutes gone in the round. Fedorov clinches up with Niwa and pushes him back against the cage. Niwa wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Niwa tries to circle away but Fedorov has him pinned against the cage. Fedorov breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Aleksandr Fedorov is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Fedorov blocks a jab. Niwa throws a shot to the body.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Niwa throws a shot from downtown. Fedorov moves away and avoids it. Niwa will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Niwa throws a hook to the side of Fedorov's head but Fedorov sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Fedorov gets in close and instigates a clinch. Niwa is trying to force a seperation but Fedorov has the dominant position. Fedorov is trying to pull guard but Niwa turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Niwa wants it to stay on the feet. Niwa misses with a right hand and Fedorov counters with a left to the body. Fedorov closes the distance and clinches up with Niwa, looking for a takedown. Fedorov pushes Niwa against the cage but Niwa circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Fedorov looks for a takedown but Niwa sprawls well. Niwa looks to land a right hand but Fedorov moved out of range. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Michael Niwa will probably get the nod - 10:9. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

and Fedorov counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Fedorov prevents Niwa from getting back to his feet. Niwa throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Niwa has a closed guard, preventing Fedorov from standing up. Fedorov preventing the sweep. Niwa not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Aleksandr Fedorov wasn't doing enough on the ground. Niwa misses with a looping left. Fedorov manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Niwa on his heels. He'll look to pass Niwa's guard now, I'm sure. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Niwa manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Fedorov is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Fedorov holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Niwa tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Niwa thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Fedorov bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Aleksandr Fedorov overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Fedorov wants to control from the top but Niwa keeps moving. Niwa looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Niwa is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Fedorov is controlling him.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Niwa can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Fedorov controls the pace. Fedorov decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Niwa, up you get! Fedorov is looking to clinch. Niwa misses with an uppercut
and Fedorov counters with a nice double leg into half guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Fedorov controlling the action here. Niwa is pressing down on Fedorov's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Niwa is looking for a triangle but Fedorov pushes his legs off easily.

Aleksandr Fedorov has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Niwa lands a lovely overhand right. Fedorov ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Niwa looks to throw the jab but Fedorov is out of range. Fedorov slips a straight right by Niwa. Niwa just misses with a punch to the body.
Niwa shoots in but Fedorov avoids the takedown attempt easily.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Fedorov has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Niwa regains guard immediately. Fedorov wants to control from the top but Niwa keeps moving. Aleksandr Fedorov has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Michael Niwa is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Niwa wants to get back to his feet but Fedorov is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
And that's the end of the fight! Aleksandr Fedorov showed his dominance in that final round. I think Niwa has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
