Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nick Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cody Gunn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nick Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Cody Gunn!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Eliza Hachem and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diaz throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Gunn sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Diaz just misses with a punch to the body.

Diaz scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Diaz looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Diaz laying and praying for a moment but Gunn takes advantage and regains half guard.

Diaz is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Gunn doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Diaz.

Diaz is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Gunn really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Diaz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Gunn defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Diaz.

Diaz has hold of Gunn's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Gunn manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Diaz gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Diaz shoots in and drives through. Gunn sprawls well.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Diaz lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Gunn circles away quickly and effectively.
Gunn thows a body shot but no joy.
Diaz throws a jab when Gunn was well out of range.
Nick Diaz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Diaz shoots for a double leg takedown but Gunn sprawls well. He's pushed Diaz's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gunn can do anything to dispel that myth.

Nice takedown defense from Gunn. No joy for Diaz on that attempt.

Gunn is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Diaz.

Diaz is looking to wear down Gunn with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Diaz throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Gunn bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Diaz's head.

Gunn throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Diaz on the side of the head.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
