Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 22 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anderson Cowell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Wanderson Lacerda!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Thiago Cunha and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cowell shoots in and drives through. Lacerda sprawls well.
Cowell circles away from the clinch attempt.
Cowell with a lazy takedown attempt

and Lacerda counters with a nice double leg into side control. Cowell won't be happy with that.
Lacerda trying to control the action but Cowell is working from the bottom.
Cowell tries to improve position but can't.
Cowell is working hard here to advance position.
Lacerda in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Cowell tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Lacerda stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Lacerda throws a head kick but Cowell moves out of range.

Cowell has his takedown stuffed
and Lacerda counters with a head kick. That will keep Cowell thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Anderson Cowell. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lacerda tries to clinch but Cowell moves out of range.
Lacerda tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Cowell manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

and Lacerda counters with a big head kick but Cowell shrugs it off.
Cowell shoots in but no luck this time.
Cowell pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Cowell gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Lacerda counters with a head kick. That will keep Cowell thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Cowell shoots and misses
and Lacerda counters with a nice low kick that buckles Cowell's knee momentarily.
Cowell avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

and Lacerda moves into the clinch.

Lacerda blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Cowell drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Lacerda gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Cowell really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Lacerda using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Cowell has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Cowell tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Lacerda smiles and moves away.

Cowell looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Lacerda controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Lacerda is looking to improve his position.
Cowell will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Lacerda is trying to control but can't.
Lacerda keeps control of the position for the meantime.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Cowell is working for a submission of some sort.
Lacerda trying to hold on to Cowell's head to control him but Cowell postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cowell trying to control from half guard but Lacerda is working away.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Lacerda won't allow Cowell to pass to mount.
Cowell is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Cowell looking for a guillotine from mount but Lacerda is having none of it.

Cowell working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

Cowell is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Lacerda has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Lacerda!

Lacerda must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Cowell wants to sweep but no luck.
Lacerda trying to control but Cowell is working from the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Cowell is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Wanderson Lacerda dominated that round.

Cowell misses with a takedown

and Lacerda counters with a single leg into guard. Cowell didn't expect that.
Lacerda trying to control but Cowell is working from the bottom.

Lacerda avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Lacerda is looking to stand up but Cowell won't let him.
Cowell can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Lacerda controls the pace.

Cowell working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lacerda doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lacerda manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Lacerda got a little sloppy there for a moment and Cowell has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Lacerda has managed to get both his arms back between Cowell's legs - danger averted.
Cowell has momentary wrist control but Lacerda slips an elbow through the middle.
Wanderson Lacerda has got the better of the ground game so far.

Cowell is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Lacerda defends well.
Lacerda wants to stand but Cowell is controlling his posture from full guard.
Lacerda is pushing down on Cowell's leg trying to pass to half guard. Cowell is fighting to maintain full guard but Lacerda has managed to sneak the leg through.
Lacerda wants to control but Cowell is keeping him busy.

Lacerda seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Cowell does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Lacerda tries to stand and escape but Cowell is controlling the position.
Cowell is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cowell manages to get to full guard.

Lacerda got a little sloppy there for a moment and Cowell has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Lacerda has managed to get both his arms back between Cowell's legs - danger averted.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Cowell has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Lacerda can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Cowell is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Lacerda rolls with it to try and escape but Cowell cranks on the arm and Lacerda is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
