Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Luigi Megani (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Damien Melendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Melendez shoots in for a double leg but Megani sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Melendez decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Megani is defending against the submission attempts here by Melendez.
Melendez is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Megani has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Melendez is working away from the top position though.
Melendez looking for a submission but Megani manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.
Melendez drops back looking for a leg! Megani is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Megani manages to kick Melendez off! Melendez jumps back into Megani's guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Megani is on top in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Melendez has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Megani doesn't defend quickly enough and Melendez has managed to lock this one up! Can Megani escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Melendez on a fantastic submission victory.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Damien Melendez! Damien Melendez retains his heavyweight title!
