Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Black! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bernie McLeod! The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Joseph Jones and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Black throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. Black tries to bum rush McLeod with a series of wild strikes but McLeod uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Black tries for a takedown but McLeod sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. McLeod lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Black at a distance.
Bernie McLeod seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A decent looking cross lands there for McLeod. McLeod just misses with a punch to the body.
McLeod slips a jab and a cross from Black.
Black avoids the body shot from McLeod.
Black darts in trying to clinch and McLeod makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Black shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down. The fighters circle momentarily. McLeod darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Black tries to clinch up. Black looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. McLeod connects with a body shot. McLeod wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
That's one minute gone in the round. Black turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. McLeod is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Black rather than just go for the knockout. Black fakes a jab and throws a low kick but McLeod checks it well. Black throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and McLeod counters with a right hand to the body. Black is breathing heavily. Black wants to clinch up but McLeod keeps it at a distance. Black closes the distance and clinches up with McLeod, looking for a takedown. Black pushes McLeod against the cage but McLeod circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. McLeod scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Black takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Black ducks right into an uppercut from McLeod. McLeod scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Black doesn't seem bothered though. McLeod throws a body punch but Black moves out of range. McLeod with a jab. McLeod scores with a jab. Black acknowledges it with a nod of the head. McLeod looks to score with a jab to the body but Black is just out of range. Black takes a body punch but keeps moving.
That's two minutes gone in the round. McLeod works Black's body with a nice hook. Black on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. McLeod lands with a shot to the body. McLeod lands a body shot.
McLeod darts in and out, connecting with a jab. McLeod fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Black looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Black gets cracked with a nice right hand there by McLeod. McLeod lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Black is rocked! McLeod lands an uppercut out of nowhere! Black falls backwards - clearly groggy! McLeod dives in and finishes the fight with more strikes for a TKO finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Bernie McLeod! During a confident post fight interview, Bernie McLeod thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
