Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alexander Fedorov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Paul Stewart! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Fedorov fails to land the takedown. Fedorov drives through with a takedown into Stewart's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Stewart doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Fedorov is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Stewart lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Fedorov! Stewart avoids the attempt from Fedorov to control. Stewart throwing shots from mount but they're not landing. Fedorov blocking the ground and pound. Fedorov tries to hold on but Stewart postures up. Fedorov is wriggling around trying to escape.
Fedorov slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fedorov is trying to get back to full guard. Stewart throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Stewart trying to control the action but Fedorov is working from the bottom. It looks like Stewart is going to stand back up.
Fedorov is controlling Stewart's trapped leg to prevent Stewart from advancing to side control. Fedorov is trying to get back to full guard. Stewart not landing any meaningful shots this time. Fedorov is holding on to half guard well. Fedorov is in trouble now - Stewart has advanced to mount! Fedorov tries to lock up and control but Stewart gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Stewart has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fedorov holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Stewart tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Fedorov is trying desperately to improve position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Stewart avoids the attempt from Fedorov to control. Stewart with a couple of short strikes. Stewart wants to take Fedorov's back but he can't do it this time. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Stewart trying to control but Fedorov is having none of it. Stewart manages to capitalize on a mistake by Fedorov to take his back!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fedorov looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment. Stewart tries to get the hooks in deep but Fedorov pushed the leg off. Stewart is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Stewart tries to keep control of the position but Fedorov is staying busy. Fedorov tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell! Fedorov is wriggling around trying to escape.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Fedorov tries to lock up and control but Stewart gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Fedorov regains half guard. Fedorov works his way to full guard. Good work. Stewart trying to control the position from guard on top but Fedorov is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Fedorov holds on and takes a little breather. Fedorov working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Stewart. Fedorov has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Fedorov wants to sweep here but Stewart controlling him for the moment. Stewart shoots in for a double leg but Fedorov sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Stewart looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Stewart fails to land the takedown. Alexander Fedorov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paul Stewart. Fedorov misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Fedorov shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Stewart as he avoids it easily. Fedorov shoots in and gets a takedown into Stewart's guard. Stewart pulls Fedorov in close to prevent any damage. Fedorov tries to free his leg and advance position but Stewart is retaining full guard. Fedorov is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Fedorov won't allow Stewart to sweep him here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stewart is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Stewart has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Fedorov can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Stewart is breathing heavily. Fedorov seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Stewart throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Horrible takedown by Fedorov or perhaps it was just good defense by Stewart which made him look bad. No luck with that takedown attempt from Stewart. Alexander Fedorov is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Fedorov shoots in and drives through. Stewart sprawls well. Fedorov closes this distance looking for a takedown but Stewart circles away. Stewart moves into range and clinches up with Fedorov. Stewart stops a takedown attempt from Fedorov.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Stewart keeping moving, preventing Fedorov from controlling successfully. Stewart manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Fedorov manages to get himself to full guard.

Fedorov looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Stewart is fending him off so far but Fedorov persists. Nope, Stewart circles away and we're back to standing. Stewart closes this distance looking for a takedown but Fedorov circles away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Stewart stuffs the takedown. Alexander Fedorov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Stewart displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Fedorov. Stewart has Fedorov up against the cage in a clinch.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Stewart looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Fedorov regains full guard. Nicely done. Fedorov looking to control.

And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Alexander Fedorov. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Fedorov, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
