PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jonnie Boardwalk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kangas Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Khan comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Try and Catch Me kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jonnie Boardwalk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kangas Khan!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Robert Twigg and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Boardwalk drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Boardwalk moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Khan is pushing Boardwalk's head away, looking to escape. Boardwalk manages to hold on to the position though.
The referee asks Boardwalk politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Boardwalk prefers to stall for the moment though.
Boardwalk seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Khan for as long as he can get away with.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Khan can do anything to dispel that myth.

Jonnie Boardwalk has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Boardwalk misses with a takedown attempt - Khan sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Boardwalk shoots for a takedown but Khan saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Khan manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Boardwalk misses with a hook to the ribs.

Come on Khan - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Khan can't find room to land a body shot as Boardwalk controls the action.
Boardwalk wants to take the fight to the mat but Khan manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Boardwalk tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Khan smiles and moves away.
Jonnie Boardwalk seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Boardwalk shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Khan is trying to defend but Boardwalk finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Khan wants to get back to full guard.

Khan tries to kick Boardwalk off but Boardwalk keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Boardwalk is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Boardwalk has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

A close round but Kangas Khan will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Kangas Khan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Khan throws out a leg kick but Boardwalk moves out of range and Khan only half commits.
Khan takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Boardwalk shoots for a double leg takedown but Khan sprawls well. He's pushed Boardwalk's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Boardwalk tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Khan swivels and escapes.
Khan stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Khan wants it to stay on the feet.

Khan tries to close the distance and clinch up but Boardwalk swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Khan lands a right hook to the body.

Boardwalk shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Khan manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Boardwalk slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Khan is looking to stand up but Boardwalk isn't so interested in that idea.
Boardwalk throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Boardwalk is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Khan utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Boardwalk seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Boardwalk passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Khan looks to move to half guard but instead Boardwalk has passed into mount! Damn!

Khan is rocked!
Boardwalk is landing with some decent strikes but Khan is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Khan is still in real trouble! Can Boardwalk finish him?
Jonnie Boardwalk overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Khan is trying desperately to improve position.
Boardwalk pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Boardwalk tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Khan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Boardwalk. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Oooooh, big shot lands for Boardwalk! Khan is hurt baaadly! Boardwalk is firing away with more strikes - Khan is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!
