PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Carl Statham (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Scott Frosty (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Frosty has chosen Stay Hungry as his entrance music. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Carl Statham!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Scott Frosty!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Reed Andrews and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Frosty shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Statham as he jumps to the side.

Frosty fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Statham sprawls well initially but Frosty persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Frosty is keen to just control but Statham is a slippery customer.
Well, if Frosty is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Frosty connects with a nice short shot to Statham's temple.
Frosty throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Frosty lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Frosty seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Frosty thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Frosty not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Statham is breathing heavily.
Frosty seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Statham does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Frosty throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Statham was covering up waiting for the punch and Frosty finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Frosty keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Statham's head.
Frosty wants to control from the top but Statham keeps moving.
Frosty is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Frosty is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Statham has momentary wrist control but Frosty slips an elbow through the middle.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Frosty drops back looking for a leg! Statham is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Statham manages to kick Frosty off! Frosty jumps back into Statham's guard.

Scott Frosty showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Frosty will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Statham slaps away a takedown attempt from Frosty, before circling back to the center of the mat.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Frosty.
No luck for Frosty with that takedown attempt.
Carl Statham has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Scott Frosty.
Frosty changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Statham tries to avoid it but Frosty manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Statham to the ground. Statham escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Frosty feints and as Statham raises his hands in defense, Frosty changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Frosty has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Statham is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Still in half guard, Frosty seems content to control.
Frosty is trying to control. Statham wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Frosty looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Statham with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Frosty seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Frosty is nestled in close to Statham, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Statham knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Frosty on the ground.

Frosty is sitting in half guard. He's postured up and lands a nice elbow. Oh, Statham is hurt! He's hurt bad - Frosty fires away with more strikes and the referee jumps in to save Statham from any more punishment! Congratulations to Frosty! Great finish!
