Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Pablo Ortiz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Hakim Soloman!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, William Peck and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Soloman lands a two punch combo.
Ortiz fails with a takedown attempt.
Ortiz throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
A low kick from Soloman misses

and Ortiz holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Soloman looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Ortiz tries to pull guard but Soloman holds him up against the cage and eventually Ortiz drops back down to his feet.
Soloman wants to break the clinch but can't.
Ortiz wants to stall.
Soloman wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Ortiz has him pressed against the cage.
Soloman wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Ortiz is trying to drag Soloman to the mat but Soloman just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pablo Ortiz. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Soloman is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Soloman wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Ortiz has him pressed against the cage.
Soloman tries to land a knee to the head but Ortiz blocks with his arms.

Ortiz jumps guard and drags Soloman to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Ortiz is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Soloman defends well.

Soloman avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Ortiz keeping moving, preventing Soloman from controlling successfully.
Soloman must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Ortiz being controlled here, momentarily.
Soloman postures up in Ortiz's guard and throws a big left but Ortiz blocks it.
Ortiz is breathing heavily.
Soloman throws and elbow that misses. Ortiz uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Soloman's guard. Nice move by Ortiz!

Soloman is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Ortiz is looking for a kimura but Soloman is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ortiz to get the leverage.
Soloman really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ortiz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Soloman tries to get to full guard but Ortiz has control of the leg.
Soloman is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Soloman is looking for a sweep. Ortiz is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Soloman keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Soloman trying to hold on to Ortiz's head to control him but Ortiz postures up.

Soloman looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Ortiz missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Soloman is trying to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ortiz trying to control from half guard but Soloman is working away.
Soloman wants to improve his position but Ortiz is controlling well.
Ortiz not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Soloman wants to control but Ortiz is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Soloman is looking to regain full guard. He's left an arm up in the air though and Ortiz has latched onto it... Big trouble! Ortiz pivots for an armbar - it's in tight and it Soloman is tapping in no time flat! Great counter grappling there from Ortiz!
