Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Georges Saint Pierre! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Michael St Pierre! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Ian Loll and Gregory Folan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! St Pierre manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Saint Pierre on his heels. He'll look to pass Saint Pierre's guard now, I'm sure. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Saint Pierre wants to stand up but St Pierre is controlling him. St Pierre trying to control but Saint Pierre is working from the bottom. Saint Pierre is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Saint Pierre is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. St Pierre trying to stand up but can't free himself from Saint Pierre's guard. St Pierre controls from within his opponent's guard. St Pierre must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Michael St Pierre wasn't active enough on the ground. St Pierre tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Saint Pierre manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Saint Pierre changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. St Pierre tries to avoid it but Saint Pierre manages to keep hold of a leg and drag St Pierre to the ground. St Pierre escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Georges Saint Pierre. That's going to take a lot out of him. St Pierre slips a straight right by Saint Pierre. Saint Pierre throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around St Pierre's waist but St Pierre gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Saint Pierre off to one side. St Pierre tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Saint Pierre manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Saint Pierre wants to control from the top but St Pierre keeps moving. St Pierre pulls Saint Pierre in close to his closed guard and prevents Saint Pierre from doing any damage or advancing position. Saint Pierre looking to sit in guard and control but St Pierre gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. St Pierre scoring with punches to the head and body. This has been an exciting period of action! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. St Pierre stands up over Saint Pierre, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Michael St Pierre dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
St Pierre drives through with a takedown into Saint Pierre's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. St Pierre stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Saint Pierre swivels though and keeps the full guard. Saint Pierre avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. St Pierre is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Saint Pierre is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Saint Pierre has escaped and now he's on top! St Pierre looking for a guillotine here but Saint Pierre defends easily.

BOOM! St Pierre connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Saint Pierre is trying desperately to improve position. St Pierre unloading with bombs! Saint Pierre is trying to escape the mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round. St Pierre is in the full mount, landing strikes. Saint Pierre is trying desperately to improve position. The referee warns Saint Pierre that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Oh Saint Pierre is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. St Pierre takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. St Pierre has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Saint Pierre's face.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. St Pierre has control of Saint Pierre's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Saint Pierre regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Saint Pierre is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Michael St Pierre showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

St Pierre content just to control the position here. St Pierre moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Saint Pierre has worked his arm free - good work by Saint Pierre!

Michael St Pierre has got the better of the ground game so far. Saint Pierre wants to control but St Pierre postures up. St Pierre tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no St Pierre has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Saint Pierre is trying to control St Pierre's posture but St Pierre avoids it.

He's almost out here... but no, St Pierre gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Saint Pierre seems a little lost for a moment, as St Pierre dominates the positioning. Saint Pierre tries to bench press St Pierre off him but St Pierre keeps the position. Saint Pierre is working hard here to advance position. St Pierre remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. St Pierre tries to score with some ground and pound. Saint Pierre controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Saint Pierre stops St Pierre from passing to mount. Georges Saint Pierre has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! St Pierre working away.

And that's the end of the fight! Michael St Pierre comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well St Pierre has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today.
