PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Levi Gene (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Don Key (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Key is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: EYELID - REGENERATE. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Levi Gene!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Don Key!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Key throws a head kick that misses.
Key throws a low kick, looking for Gene's leg but Gene calmly moves out of range.

Gene fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Key sprawls well initially but Gene persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Gene seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Key does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Key has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gene is working away from the top position though.
Gene wants to lay and pray for a moment but Key keeps working.
Gene is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Gene misses with a head shot. Key uses the momentum to regain guard.
Gene in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Gene has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Key preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Key looking for a sweep. Not yet Key, not yet.
Gene trying to control the position from guard on top but Key is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Gene in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Gene tries to free his leg and advance position but Key is retaining full guard.
Key avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Gene trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Gene throws an elbow that misses. Key uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Gene's guard. Nice move by Key!
Gene is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Key content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Key trying to control the position from guard on top but Gene is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Key must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Key won't allow Gene to sweep him here.
Gene trying to keep a closed guard but Key is proving a slippery customer.
Key slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Key creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Key with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Gene looks to clinch
and Key counters with an inside leg kick.
Key looks to score with a jab to the body but Gene is just out of range.
Key thuds his shin into the meat of Gene's side.
Don Key is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Gene throws a hook to the side of Key's head but Key sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Key jabs Gene right on the nose. Gene blinks but takes it well.
Gene on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Gene ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Key moves away.
Key tries a head kick but it misses.
Key looks to score with a jab to the body but Gene is just out of range.
Gene takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Gene wants to clinch.
Gene pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Gene takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Gene tries to clinch there but Key circles away.
Gene checks a leg kick.
Key looking to land some kicks to the body here.

Gene forces Key back against the cage and clinches.
Gene tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Gene throws a punch but it's blocked by Key.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Key.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Key is leaning against Gene and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Key lands with a left to the head.
Key pushes Gene back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
A body shot lands from Key.
Gene tries to stall but Key uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Don Key dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Gene dives in and grabs Key's left leg, looking for a takedown. Key pushes down on Gene's head and hops out.
Key cracks Gene with a right hand to the side of the head.
Key connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Key misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Gene.
Key turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Key throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Gene.
Gene thows a leg kick but Key checks it
and Key counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
Key paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Key pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Crunch! Key slams his shin into Gene's torso.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Key misses with a body kick.
Key misses with an attempted mid kick.
Gene takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Key darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Gene moves forwards but Key connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Gene misses with a looping left.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gene takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Key thows a body kick. Gene tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Key stuffs the takedown attempt from Gene. Gene gets slowly back to his feet.
Key feints and then cracks Gene's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Gene down.
Key lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Key lands a really nice looking cross but Gene seems unphased.
A decent looking cross lands there for Key.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Key is looking to clinch but Gene is avoiding it.
Gene takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Gene has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Key finds it's way round the side to connect with Gene's head.
Gene takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Key lands a slapping body shot.
Key scores with a shot to the body.
Key misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Levi Gene seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Key fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Gene has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Gene there as he acknowledges the shot.
Donk. Key catches Gene right on the button with a cross.

Key scores with a shot to the body.
Key feints and then cracks Gene's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Gene down.
Key digs a good body shot into Gene's ribs.
Key thows a body kick. Gene tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Gene will be looking to protect his midsection after taking some solid kicks to the body.
Key connects with a single shot there.
Levi Gene is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A combination from Gene does no damage.
Don Key seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Key gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Good body shot from Key.
Gene takes a shot to the head.
Key lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Gene backwards.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Key obliges.
Gene can't break the clinch.

Key's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Key has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Key pushes Gene away with a front kick.
Gene takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Gene drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Oh Gene is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Key fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.

Gene's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Key lands an uppercut.
Key lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

Key unloads a knee to the mid-section. Gene lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

A quick uppercut on the inside from Key.
Gene takes an elbow to the temple.
Gene is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Key lands with a short shot to the head.
Key pushes Gene against the cage. Key is working some dirty boxing. Key pushes off with a quick right hook! Gene goes down! Gene tries to stand but stumbles back to his kness! Key moves in to finish and the ref steps in to prevent any more damage!
