PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Andy Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mat Matmat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Matmat has chosen pass tha axe as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Andy Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mat Matmat!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Lou da Vinci and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matmat lands a leg kick that knocks Johnson off balance momentarily.
Matmat shoots in but no luck this time.
Johnson throws a low kick but it's checked well by Matmat.
Johnson ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Johnson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Matmat is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Matmat tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Johnson presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Matmat in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Johnson cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Johnson drops back looking for a leg! Matmat is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Matmat manages to kick Johnson off! Johnson jumps back into Matmat's guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Johnson keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Matmat will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Johnson is stalling here. Matmat is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Johnson seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Matmat has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

That was a close second round but I would say that Andy Johnson will probably get the nod.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Andy Johnson.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Johnson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
