Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
18 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bubba Dummy! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Otto Santos! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Gwen Towbar and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dummy shoots in but no luck this time. Dummy with a lazy takedown attempt and Santos counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Santos. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Dummy is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Santos throwing strikes from guard but Dummy blocks nicely. Santos working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Dummy trying to control the position.
Santos missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Santos wants to control from the top but Dummy keeps moving. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Santos accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Santos distracts Dummy with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Santos landing some decent shots from guard. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Santos accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Dummy keeping moving, preventing Santos from controlling successfully. Santos throws a strike but Dummy rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Santos is looking to stand up but Dummy isn't so interested in that idea. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Dummy has gone for a leg lock! Santos slips out almost immediately though and dives into Dummy's guard. Santos trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Santos throwing strikes but missing. Dummy has momentary wrist control but Santos slips an elbow through the middle. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Santos postures up and lands a big shot to Dummy's brow. Santos working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Dummy's head. Santos looking to sit in guard and control but Dummy gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Dummy prevents Santos from getting back to his feet. Santos is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. Dummy is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Santos is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Santos has escaped and now he's on top!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Santos distracts Dummy with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Santos must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Santos throws a strike but Dummy rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Dummy wants to control from the top but Santos keeps moving. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Otto Santos dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Dummy shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Santos defends it nicely. Dummy misses with a takedown attempt - Santos sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Dummy fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Santos avoids it really well and circles away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bubba Dummy. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dummy throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Santos's waist but Santos gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Dummy off to one side. Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world. A momentary lapse in concentration from Santos enables Dummy to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Santos manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Dummy pushes down on Santos's leg and manages to get into half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Dummy maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Santos could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Dummy has cracked it and Santos is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Dummy!
