Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jie Liu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mickey Knox (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Knox has chosen Something I Can Never Have as his entrance music. Mickey Knox told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jie Liu! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mickey Knox! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Ian Loll and William Peck.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Liu on the wrong end of a nice jab. Knox missing with a left hand there. Liu was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Knox shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down. Knox throws a leg kick which misses Liu's front leg but catches the back leg as Liu tries to avoid it. Knox connects with the punch. Liu thumps Knox with a low kick. Knox looks for a takedown but Liu sprawls well. Knox with a body punch. A glancing blow. Knox misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Liu.
Liu tries a head kick but it misses.
Liu misses with a body kick. Liu swats away the attempt to clinch by Knox. Knox throws a right and a left that both miss.
That's one minute gone in the round. Knox takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Knox throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Liu misses with an attempted mid kick.
Knox fails in his attempt to clinch. Knox closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Knox throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Knox checks the leg kick. A jab lands there for Knox. Liu misses with an attempted mid kick.
Liu is looking to slow Knox down with leg kicks. Knox stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Liu. Liu showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Knox.
Liu scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
That's two minutes gone in the round. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Knox misses with an uppercut. Liu throws the kick towards the body but Knox avoids it. Liu throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Left hook, right uppercut from Liu.
It looks like Mickey Knox has been cut. Liu wants to slow Knox down by chopping away at his legs. Knox misses with an uppercut. Liu looks to land a combination but Knox avoids it well. Liu dodges the punch combination from Knox.
Knox misses the jab. Good leg kick by Liu there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Liu finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Liu bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Knox moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Knox scores with a one two! Liu had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. Liu throws a push kick but Knox slaps the foot to one side. A nice combination there by Knox.
A low kick from Liu is predictable there and Knox counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Knox swinging wildly here.
Liu takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. Knox changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Liu tries to avoid it but Knox manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Liu to the ground. Liu escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Knox scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Liu tries to get back to half guard but can't.
That's four minutes gone in the round. This has been an exciting period of action! Liu is trying to control Knox's posture but Knox avoids it. Liu manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Knox avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Liu. Liu not landing any meaningful shots this time. Knox keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Liu slips a nice elbow through Knox's hands, connecting with Knox's forehead. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Liu lands a nice short elbow. Liu looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jie Liu dominated that round. The cut man is working on Mickey Knox's cut. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Knox takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Knox misses with a double jab.
Liu keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Liu feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Knox's calf. Knox lands a glancing blow to the side of Liu's head. Knox throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Liu throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. Knox misses with a lunging right hand
and Liu counters with a nice leg kick. Liu has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ. Knox throws a jab when Liu was well out of range. Knox misses with a double jab.
Jie Liu is winning the standup battle so far. Liu fakes the leg kick and cracks Knox in the body.
That's one minute gone in the round. Liu lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Knox is breathing heavily. Liu moves out of range of the strikes. A looping hook to the body misses from Liu. Knox does a little dance to reset his feet. Some wild striking there from Knox.
A chopping leg kick lands by Liu. Liu throws a leg kick which misses Knox's front leg but catches the back leg as Knox tries to avoid it. Liu misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Knox. Knox throws a right hand that Liu ducks under and follows up with a left that Liu also avoids with ease. Liu cracks Knox with a good jab. Knox stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Liu.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Liu throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Liu lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Knox misses with a series of wild punches.
Knox throws a lazy uppercut
and Liu counters with a head kick that drops Knox - he's looking to finish, following his stunned foe to the ground!
Knox is rocked! Liu lands a big elbow - Knox is out of it! He's waving his arms around but his eyes are closed and he's not intelligently defending himself - the ref has no choice but to jump in and stop the fight! This one is in the books! A TKO win for Liu!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jie Liu!
