PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Anthony Joseph (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Martin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Anthony Joseph!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Martin!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Chris Downing and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Martin lands a jab to Joseph's midsection.
Joseph moves forwards but Martin connects with a nice, crisp jab.


It looks like Anthony Joseph has been cut.
Joseph misses with a leg kick
enabling Martin to counter with a crisp jab.
Martin lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Joseph circles away quickly and effectively.
Martin throws a wild body kick that Joseph sees coming a mile off.
A nice leg kick lands there from Joseph.
Joseph misses the jab.
Joseph tries to clinch up.
Joseph slips a jab and a cross from Martin.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Joseph moves out of range as Martin strikes.
Joseph cracks the inside of Martin's front leg.
Joseph avoids a punch combination nicely.
Joseph lands a nice leg kick that just misses Martin's sensitive parts.
Martin throws a shot from downtown. Joseph moves away and avoids it.
Martin lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Joseph throws a series of punches but Martin avoids them all with ease.
Frank Martin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Joseph on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Martin. Martin obviously looking to wear him down.
A solid leg kick lands there for Joseph.
Joseph slips under a jab from Martin.
Joseph connects with a crisp jab.
Joseph throws a hook but Martin blocks it.

Martin closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Joseph to the mat! Joseph manages to get full guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Joseph seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Joseph is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Martin is pushing down on Joseph's leg trying to pass to half guard. Joseph is fighting to maintain full guard but Martin has managed to sneak the leg through.
Joseph tries to roll over but Martin keeps him under control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Martin is trying to control the action in half guard but Joseph is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Joseph has his hands clasped together around Martin's back. He's all about the action.
Martin missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Joseph wants to improve his position but Martin is controlling well.

Martin is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Martin is trying to work for a kimura but Joseph is defending well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Martin wants to work for an arm triangle but Joseph is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Joseph is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Joseph is trying to get back to full guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Martin thows a huge punch but Joseph dodges it nicely.

Joseph is trying to stand.

Joseph wants to sweep but Martin has passed to side control!
Joseph is being controlled here.
Joseph parries the strikes from Martin easily there. Martin is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Joseph to escape.
Martin wants to lay and pray for a moment but Joseph keeps working.
Joseph is looking for a sweep.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Joseph sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Joseph keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Joseph is trying to maintain the position but Martin is very close to passing his half guard.
Joseph wants to get back to full guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Joseph is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Martin's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Martin's back!
Joseph is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at Martin. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped.
Martin tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Frank Martin will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Anthony Joseph's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Martin misses with a series of wild punches.

Joseph closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Martin quickly recovers to half guard.
Joseph drops an elbow to the side of Martin's head.
Joseph missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Joseph throws a strike but Martin avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Joseph throws a big elbow that misses.
Joseph with a flurry of punches that miss.
Martin controls Joseph momentarily but Joseph frees himself.
Martin working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Joseph.

Martin has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Joseph can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Joseph is posturing up here but Martin has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Joseph tries to roll out but it's too tight and Joseph has to tap! Slick submission there by Martin!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:01 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Frank Martin!
