Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Michail Bugaev! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, First Dag! The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Vladimir Khabensky.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dag defending well as Bugaev loads up on a big left hand. Dag looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Bugaev lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Dag circles away quickly and effectively. Bugaev throws a right and a left that Dag avoids nicely. Dag shoots for a takedown but Bugaev saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Bugaev closes the distance and lands a one-two.
It looks like First Dag has been cut. Bugaev loads up on a big right hand but Dag slips the punch. Bugaev scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. This has been an exciting period of action! Dag closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Dag is pressing down on Bugaev's thigh, looking to free his foot. Bugaev is holding on for now. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Dag connects with a nice short shot to Bugaev's temple. Bugaev tries to kick Dag off but Dag keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Dag not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Bugaev looks like he's trying to stand up.
Dag thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Bugaev's head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bugaev avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Dag. Dag thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Bugaev's head. Bugaev blocking the ground and pound attempt from Dag. Dag has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Dag misses with a head shot. Bugaev uses the momentum to regain guard. Bugaev will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Bugaev preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Dag throwing strikes from guard but Bugaev blocks nicely. Bugaev working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Dag. Dag throws a big right hand that misses.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Dag postures up in Bugaev's guard and throws a big left but Bugaev blocks it. Bugaev scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Dag just misses with a punch to the body.
Dag swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Bugaev slaps away a takedown attempt from Dag, before circling back to the center of the mat. Michail Bugaev has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of First Dag. Bugaev throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Michail Bugaev seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Dag displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Bugaev throws out the jab. Dag fails with the takedown. Dag slips a jab from Bugaev. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Bugaev moves into range and connects with a jab. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Dag shoots in and drives through. Bugaev sprawls well. Bugaev misses with a looping left. Dag misses with a straight right.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bugaev cracks Dag with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Dag looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Bugaev finish him?
Dag is rocked! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Bugaev fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Dag is still on wobbly legs! Can Bugaev finish him? Bugaev drops Dag with a straight right hand, right on the button! Bugaev follows him down to the mat and pounds him out with hammerfists until the referee jumps in to end the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:15 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Michail Bugaev! Our winner, Michail Bugaev, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
