Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Melvin Saddleman! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joey Tuffnuts! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Thiago Cunha and Mauricio Rocha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Tuffnuts. Saddleman throws a right hand that Tuffnuts ducks under and follows up with a left that Tuffnuts also avoids with ease. Saddleman throws a left that rocks Tuffnuts and follows with a right that sends him tumbling to the canvas! Saddleman dives into side control, looking to finish! Can Tuffnuts regain composure!
Tuffnuts is rocked! Tuffnuts throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.
Tuffnuts is still in real trouble! Can Saddleman finish him? Saddleman has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Tuffnuts! Tuffnuts seems to have recovered his senses. Tuffnuts is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Saddleman unloading with bombs! Saddleman lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Saddleman can't control as he wanted to and Tuffnuts manages to get the fight back to his half guard. Tuffnuts has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Saddleman wants to control but Tuffnuts is keeping him busy. Saddleman perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Tuffnuts gets back to full guard.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Tuffnuts holds on and takes a little breather. Saddleman preventing the sweep.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tuffnuts has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Saddleman can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Saddleman controlling from the top position. Tuffnuts keeping moving, preventing Saddleman from controlling successfully. Saddleman is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Tuffnuts escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Saddleman gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Saddleman trying to control but Tuffnuts is working from the bottom. Saddleman preventing the sweep. Tuffnuts is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Tuffnuts escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Saddleman gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Saddleman sitting in guard here, content to control. Saddleman tries to free his leg and advance position but Tuffnuts is retaining full guard. Tuffnuts keeping moving, preventing Saddleman from controlling successfully. Tuffnuts wants to control the position but Saddleman says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Tuffnuts trying to control from the bottom.
Tuffnuts is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Tuffnuts is looking to control Saddleman's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Tuffnuts avoid being mounted? Saddleman trying to control the action but Tuffnuts is working from the bottom.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Tuffnuts scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Saddleman wants to improve his position but Tuffnuts is controlling well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Tuffnuts is looking for a kimura but Saddleman is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Tuffnuts to get the leverage. Tuffnuts looks gassed! Tuffnuts is thwarting Saddleman's attempts to control the position. Tuffnuts is looking to take a break and control but Saddleman is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Saddleman keeping control of the position. Saddleman wants to get back to full guard. Tuffnuts throwing shots but Saddleman is blocking nicely. Tuffnuts tries to pass the half guard into mount. Saddleman knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground. Jab, jab by Saddleman - just one landing. Horrible takedown by Tuffnuts or perhaps it was just good defense by Saddleman which made him look bad. Saddleman throws a combination. Tuffnuts tries to block but a couple of punches get through. Tuffnuts shoots in but no luck this time. Melvin Saddleman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joey Tuffnuts.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Tuffnuts drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Saddleman is trying to control Tuffnuts's posture but Tuffnuts avoids it. Saddleman might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Saddleman tries to improve position but can't. Tuffnuts sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Saddleman is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Tuffnuts has an Americana. Saddleman didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Tuffnuts is delighted and gyrates infront of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Tuffnuts hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Joey Tuffnuts! Joey Tuffnuts retains his light heavyweight title!
