4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Domingo Chavez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Steve Menzies! The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Summer Carpenter and John Mangel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Menzies closes the distance and clinches. Menzies has Chavez pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Menzies pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Chavez tumbling to the mat - Menzies dives into Chavez's guard. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Menzies is looking to work some ground and pound but Chavez has wrist control. Chavez managing to control the position. Menzies seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Chavez tries a head kick but it misses.
Menzies bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Chavez misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Menzies is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Chavez keeping moving, preventing Menzies from controlling successfully. Chavez trying to keep a closed guard but Menzies is proving a slippery customer.
Menzies stays in close to Chavez's body and controls the position. Menzies must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Steve Menzies hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Menzies scores with a hook. A jab from Menzies finds it's way through Chavez's defenses. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Menzies is trying to control the action in half guard but Chavez is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Steve Menzies has got the better of the ground game so far. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Chavez is trying to maintain the position but Menzies is very close to passing his half guard.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Chavez punching from mount but Menzies doing a good job of avoiding damage. Chavez takes Menzies's back. Menzies is in bad spot here.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Menzies wants to control his opponent's hands but Chavez gets his hands free. Chavez is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Chavez is cranking Menzies's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Menzies! He's tightened the choke and Menzies is tapping out!
