PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ken Yoshida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nash Montes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ken Yoshida!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Nash Montes!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Matheus Silva and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yoshida works over Montes's head and body with a nice combination.
Yoshida throws an overhand right that lands on Montes's shoulder, as Montes tries to avoid the shot.
Yoshida fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Montes is out of range.
Yoshida misses the shot to the body.

Yoshida shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Yoshida was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Yoshida has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Montes's face.
Montes tries to hold on but Yoshida postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Yoshida wants to control the pace but Montes is squirming around nicely.
Poor strikes thrown by Yoshida there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Yoshida prevents Montes from getting the reversal.
Yoshida wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.

Yoshida jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Montes is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Montes and Yoshida has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Yoshida wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Montes, who protects the arm well.
Montes is trying to get back to half guard.
Montes pushes Yoshida away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Yoshida gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Yoshida scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Montes to see if he's OK.
Yoshida has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Montes tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Yoshida wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Yoshida wants to lay and pray for a moment but Montes keeps working.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Yoshida lands with a nice body punch.
Yoshida throws a leg kick which misses Montes's front leg but catches the back leg as Montes tries to avoid it.
Montes takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Montes is looking to clinch but Yoshida is avoiding it.
Yoshida tries to land a leg kick but Montes saw it coming and moves away.

Yoshida lands a nice looking kick to the body. Montes takes a step back to recover.

Yoshida misses with a hook.
Yoshida connects with a nice looking jab.

Montes is looking to clinch.
Nash Montes is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

and Yoshida counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Yoshida shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Montes keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Yoshida throws a predictable looking body shot
and Montes counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Yoshida just misses with a punch to the body.
Montes takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
A head kick misses from Yoshida.
Yoshida throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Montes keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Yoshida scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Montes ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Yoshida comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Yoshida throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.

and Montes counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Yoshida has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Montes avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Yoshida tries to move to mount but Montes blocks the move with his legs.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Yoshida swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

and Montes counters with a nice uppercut.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Yoshida.
Yoshida is looking to wear down Montes with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Yoshida closes the distance and lands a one-two.


It looks like Nash Montes has been cut.
Montes misses with an uppercut. Yoshida saw that one coming.
Montes looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Yoshida throws a body punch but Montes moves out of range.
Yoshida throws a right hand that Montes ducks under and follows up with a left that Montes also avoids with ease.
A nice inside leg kick there by Yoshida. That's going to slow Montes down.
Yoshida circles away from the clinch attempt
and Yoshida counters with a one-two to the body.
Yoshida throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Montes uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Yoshida.

Horrible takedown by Yoshida or perhaps it was just good defense by Montes which made him look bad.
Montes looks to land a combination but Yoshida avoids it well.
Montes throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Yoshida counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
A clash of legs there as Montes blocks the low kick.
Yoshida tries for a takedown but Montes circles away easily
letting Montes counter with a right hand.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ken Yoshida. That's going to take a lot out of him.
No joy there for Yoshida, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Yoshida ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Montes moves away.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

and Yoshida counters with a good low kick that Montes was not able to check.

Montes tries to close the distance and clinch up but Yoshida swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Yoshida creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Montes is not content to let Yoshida control the position.

Yoshida is looking to take a break and control but Montes is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Ken Yoshida just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Yoshida throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Montes sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Yoshida throws the kick towards the body but Montes avoids it.
Yoshida throws a head kick but Montes moves out of range.

Ken Yoshida showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Yoshida, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
