PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Maxwell Green (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Ward (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Maxwell Green!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chris Ward!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Chris Downing and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Green changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ward tries to avoid it but Green manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ward to the ground. Ward escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Green tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Ward paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Green looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Ward is fending him off so far but Green persists. Nope, Ward circles away and we're back to standing.
Ward scores with a head kick.
Ward connects with an inside leg kick.

Ward drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Ward must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Ward sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Green's guard.

Ward is working for a kimura but Green is defending it quite comfortably.

Green is looking for a sweep. Ward is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Green is working to avoid the ground and pound but Ward connects with a decent elbow.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Ward tries to move into full mount but can't pass Green's legs.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Ward has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Green takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chris Ward dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Ward feints and as Green raises his hands in defense, Ward changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Chris Ward has got the better of the ground game so far.
Ward forces his way into half guard.
Ward wants to pass to mount but Green is defending the position.
Ward seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Ward wants to advance to full mount but Green doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.

Green had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ward defends it easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Ward controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Green is striking off his back. Ward thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.
Ward trying to control the action but Green is working from the bottom.
Ward thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Ward is keen to just control but Green is a slippery customer.
Ward wants to stand but Green has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

The fighters are battling for position here. Green manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Green not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Chris Ward.
A left and a right from Ward both land. Nice combination.
Ward checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Ward lands a glancing blow to the side of Green's head.
Ward takes a kick to the side of the head.

Ward gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Ward kicks Green off and gets to his feet.
Ward cracks Green with a right hand to the side of the head.
Ward shoots in for a takedown but Green shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Nice takedown defense from Green. No joy for Ward on that attempt.
Ward throws out a leg kick but Green moves out of range and Ward only half commits.

Ward bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Ward wants to lay and pray for a moment but Green keeps working.
Green is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Green can't do much from the bottom here.

Ward scores with a couple of short elbows.

Ward is working to tighten is grip on Green's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Green has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Ward is really squeezing tight and eventually Green passes out! Ward breaks the hold and jumps onto the ropes to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
