PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Big Oh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Beata Fiszer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Beata Fiszer struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 171.3lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Beata Fiszer told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Big Oh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Beata Fiszer!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Ben Zyskovitsi and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fiszer has his takedown stuffed

and Oh counters with a single leg into guard. Fiszer didn't expect that.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Fiszer wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Fiszer looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Oh passes into half guard.
Oh is trying to control. Fiszer wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Oh wants to pass to mount but Fiszer is defending the position.
Fiszer is looking to control Oh's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Fiszer avoid being mounted?

Oh tries to stand and escape but Fiszer is controlling the position.
Oh content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Fiszer looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Fiszer is looking for a sweep. Oh is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Oh will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Oh drops an elbow to the side of Fiszer's head.
Oh lands with a punch from half guard.

Oh trying to control from Fiszer's half guard. Fiszer has other ideas though and has regained full guard.

Fiszer working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Oh doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Oh content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Oh with a flurry of punches that miss.
Oh loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Fiszer keeping moving, preventing Oh from controlling successfully.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Fiszer had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Oh defends it easily.
Fiszer looks gassed!

Oh loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Oh with a flurry of punches that miss.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Oh trying to control but Fiszer is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Oh lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Oh wants to stand but Fiszer has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Fiszer seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Oh has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Big Oh.

Oh has closed the distance and engaged Fiszer in a clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Fiszer is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Oh can't fight it off and eventually Fiszer manages to take the fight to the floor. Oh looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Fiszer thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Big Oh dominated that round.
That's time! Oh's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Oh shoots in and gets a takedown into Fiszer's guard.
Fiszer is trying to control the position but Oh postures up.
Big Oh overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Fiszer is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Oh is aware though and is defending well.
Fiszer has a closed guard, preventing Oh from standing up.

Fiszer is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Oh working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Oh stays in close to Fiszer's body and controls the position.
Fiszer is breathing heavily.

Oh wants to control from the top but Fiszer keeps moving.
Oh wanted to stand there but Fiszer had control of the position.

Fiszer looking for a guillotine here but Oh defends easily.
Oh slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Fiszer is trying to keep Oh in close.

Fiszer looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Fiszer is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Oh trying to control here.
Oh makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Oh.
Oh is trying to control the position but Fiszer postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Big Oh will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Oh rushes Fiszer and presses him up against the cage.
Fiszer on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Fiszer changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Oh fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Fiszer gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Oh to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Oh looking to sit in guard and control but Fiszer gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Fiszer advances to half guard.
Fiszer takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Fiszer seems to be working for a kimura but Oh defends the submission attempt.
Oh has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Fiszer is working away from the top position though.
Oh knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Fiszer on the ground.
Oh avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Fiszer.
Fiszer is looking to take a break and control but Oh is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Fiszer wants to pass to mount but Oh is defending the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Oh is in trouble now - Fiszer has advanced to mount!
Fiszer tries to control but Oh wriggling away.

Fiszer is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Oh to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Oh shrugs it off.
Oh is trying to escape the mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Fiszer jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Oh is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Oh and Fiszer has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Big Oh is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Oh regains half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fiszer throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Oh is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Oh is trying to maintain the position but Fiszer is very close to passing his half guard.
Fiszer is trying to control the action in half guard but Oh is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Fiszer is working for a kimura but Oh is defending it quite comfortably.
Beata Fiszer has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Fiszer wants to control but Oh is keeping him busy.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Beata Fiszer.
Well Oh has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
