0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Micheal Hall! The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Felipe Paraventi and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Novo goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. The fight stays on the outside here - Novo looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Novo scores with a jab. Nice body punch from Novo. Nice cross by Novo. Thiago Novo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Novo clinches. Novo with a knee to the head.
Hall prevents Novo from breaking the clinch. Novo wants to get back to striking at distance but Hall won't allow it.

Nice straight punches there by Novo. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Novo. Novo stuffs the takedown attempt from Hall. Hall gets slowly back to his feet. Novo fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Novo's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Novo duly obliges. Novo shoots and misses and Hall counters with a shoot takedown. Novo fights it but they end up in guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Novo had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Hall is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Novo Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Hall's back instead. Novo is breathing heavily. Novo is trying to stick to Hall's back but Hall is turning into Novo. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Novo's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Hall. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hall not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Despite being in the dominant position, Micheal Hall just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Novo lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Novo thuds a left hand into Hall's body. Novo misses with a jab, cross combination.

enabling Novo to counter with a crisp jab. Novo doesn't manage to clinch there - Hall circles away.
Novo throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Novo is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Novo doesn't succeed with the takedown and Hall counters with a nice double leg into side control. Novo won't be happy with that. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Thiago Novo. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hall takes a little break here. Novo wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hall is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Novo looks calm but he's in trouble here. Hall gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Novo is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Hall lets go of the hold and Novo can pop his arm back in it's socket.
