Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Azizmullah Khabukthakar! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Clinton Samuel! The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Gregory Folan and Dillan Fox.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Khabukthakar doesn't manage to clinch there - Samuel circles away.
Khabukthakar moves into the clinch. Khabukthakar looking to throw knees to the head but Samuel is blocking nicely.
Samuel breaks the clinch.
Khabukthakar shoots in but Samuel avoids the takedown attempt easily. Samuel fails with an attempt to clinch.
Khabukthakar gets caught napping as Samuel dives in and scores a takedown. Khabukthakar manages to retain guard. Samuel is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Khabukthakar throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Samuel escapes and throws Khabukthakar's legs to the side, diving into side control! Khabukthakar is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Samuel off and has taken his back! Samuel wants to get back to his feet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Khabukthakar looking to break Samuel's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Samuel remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Khabukthakar will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
That's one minute gone in the round. Samuel tries to break free.
Khabukthakar working for the choke. Samuel wants to control his opponent's hands but Khabukthakar gets his hands free. Khabukthakar is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Samuel has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here. Khabukthakar avoiding Samuel 's attempts to control his hands. Samuel manages to reverse the position and now he's in Khabukthakar's guard. Nice work there by Samuel.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Samuel slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Khabukthakar is looking for a triangle but Samuel pushes his legs off easily.
Khabukthakar is breathing heavily. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Khabukthakar tries to land a sweep but no joy. Khabukthakar looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Samuel slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Samuel is in close to Khabukthakar's body, working some short punches and elbows. Samuel pushes down on Khabukthakar's leg and manages to get into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Samuel has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Samuel tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. It looks like Samuel might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Samuel with a couple of short strikes. Samuel punishing his opponent with strikes. Samuel takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Samuel manages to capitalize on a mistake by Khabukthakar to take his back!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Samuel is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Khabukthakar knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Khabukthakar for a finish. Samuel is working the back position looking for the choke. Oh, he's slid into an armbar! Beautiful transition and Khabukthakar taps out! Fantastic Jiu Jitsu from Samuel.
