Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Michael Angelo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hoyt Jurgensen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jurgensen comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Peter, Paul & Mary - If I Had A Hammer kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Hoyt Jurgensen has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 5 - 1, fighting out of New York, Michael Angelo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hoyt Jurgensen! The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Chad Campbell and Columbo Gatti.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Angelo jabbing away but nothing is landing. Angelo drives through and clinches with Jurgensen against the cage.
Jurgensen blocks the elbow strike.
Angelo is pressed up against the cage. Jurgensen has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Angelo down to the mat. Angelo avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Jurgensen takes a swing at Angelo's ribcage but misses. Jurgensen cracks Angelo with a right hand to the side of the head. Angelo throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Jurgensen shoots in for a double leg but Angelo sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Angelo fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Jurgensen, pushing him back against the cage. A nice right hand lands inside from Jurgensen. Angelo throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Jurgensen blocks it with crossed arms. Jurgensen gets a trip takedown into half guard. Angelo holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now. Jurgensen content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Let's hope that Jurgensen has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Angelo might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Hoyt Jurgensen hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Jurgensen fails with a takedown attempt. Michael Angelo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hoyt Jurgensen. Jurgensen uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Angelo. Jurgensen shoots for a double leg takedown but Angelo sprawls well. He's pushed Jurgensen's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Angelo showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Jurgensen.
Jurgensen gets in close and instigates a clinch. Angelo misses with a knee strike.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Angelo just misses with a elbow thrown towards Jurgensen's brow. Jurgensen drags the fight down to the ground.

Angelo wanted to stand there but Jurgensen had control of the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Angelo wants to control from the top but Jurgensen keeps moving. Jurgensen is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Angelo is aware though and is defending well. Jurgensen looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Angelo decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Jurgensen, up you get! Jurgensen shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Angelo pinned against the cage. Angelo gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Angelo swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Jurgensen. Hoyt Jurgensen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Jurgensen tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Angelo swivels and escapes. Angelo tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Danga de danga de dang - Jurgensen scores with a four punch combination! Some wild striking there from Jurgensen.
Jurgensen looks gassed! Jurgensen gets tackled into the cage by Angelo. Angelo maintains the clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jurgensen blocks an elbow strike. Jurgensen jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Angelo walks away with a smile on his face. Jurgensen gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Angelo moves into the clinch. Jurgensen ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Jurgensen no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Angelo wants to control from the top but Jurgensen keeps moving. Jurgensen looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Angelo wants to stand but Jurgensen is controlling his posture from full guard. Angelo is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Jurgensen throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Jurgensen looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Jurgensen keeping full guard, as Angelo tries to pass. Angelo has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Angelo would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Angelo decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Jurgensen, up you get! Angelo forces Jurgensen back against the cage and clinches. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Jurgensen drags the fight down to the ground.
Angelo tries to stand but Jurgensen is controlling from the bottom. Jurgensen is looking to sinch up a triangle. Angelo throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Jurgensen's body to avoid the submission. Jurgensen has instead reached around Angelo's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Jurgensen arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Hoyt Jurgensen!
