PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Triton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Raymond Crowe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Crowe's choice of entrance music: Einherjer - Odin Owns Ye All. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Triton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Raymond Crowe!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Joseph Jones and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A punch combination from Crowe misses.
Crowe tries to close the distance and clinch but Triton swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Triton shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Crowe but Crowe pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Crowe lands with a slapping head kick.
Crowe misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Triton.
Crunch! Crowe slams his shin into Triton's torso.
Crowe throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Crowe tries a head kick but it misses.

Triton drives through with a takedown into Crowe's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Triton's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Triton trying to control the position from guard on top but Crowe is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Triton pushes down on Crowe's leg and manages to get into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Triton is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Triton wants to work for an arm triangle but Crowe is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Triton is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Crowe reverses the position - he's now on top in Triton's guard.

Triton has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Crowe can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Crowe must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Crowe lands a nice short elbow.

Triton has one foot on Crowe's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Triton blocks a head kick by Crowe.
Crowe defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Triton.
Crowe tries to land a front kick but Triton steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
A shot to the liver by Crowe. Beautiful body shot.
Crowe fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Triton manages to avoid it.
Crowe will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Crowe looks to land a body kick but Triton moved away.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Crowe enables Triton to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Crowe manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Triton postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Crowe is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Triton, into his guard.
Crowe working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Crowe throws a big elbow that misses.

Crowe avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Crowe postures up.
Crowe content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Crowe throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Triton works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Crowe wants to pass the guard but Triton is keeping the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Crowe postures up in Triton's guard and throws a big left but Triton blocks it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that John Triton will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Triton is trying hard to land a takedown here. Crowe sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Crowe jabs Triton to the body, keeping him at a distance.

and Triton counters with a takedown into side control.
Triton is looking to take a break and control but Crowe is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Triton tries for a kimura but Crowe is defending well.

Triton swings around for an armbar but Crowe sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Triton's guard.

Crowe postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Triton has his hands on Crowe's head, controlling the position.
Triton controls Crowe momentarily but Crowe frees himself.
Crowe throws a big right hand that misses.

Triton looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Triton looking to hit a scissor sweep but Crowe is one step ahead there.

Triton escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Crowe gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Crowe lands a couple of digs.
Triton avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Crowe working some strikes from top position.
Crowe throws a strike but Triton rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Triton looking to pass the guard.
Crowe keeping moving, preventing Triton from controlling successfully.
Triton tries to free his leg and advance position but Crowe is retaining full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Crowe throws a hook but Triton avoids it easily.
A chopping leg kick lands by Crowe.

Triton darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Triton is looking to advance position but Crowe won't allow it.

Triton tries to pass the half guard into mount. Crowe knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Triton wants to take a breather but Crowe is having none of it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. John Triton wasn't doing enough on the ground.

That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Triton is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Crowe is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Triton is trying to control. Crowe wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Crowe is on the bottom, trying to hold on to half guard. He's throwing a few small shots here, to keep his opponent honest.
Triton content to control rather than advance.

Triton seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Crowe is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
