Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mikkel Bukholt Nielsen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Julio Sobral (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mikkel Bukholt Nielsen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Julio Sobral!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Mauricio Rocha and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nielsen throws a push kick but Sobral slaps the foot to one side.
Sobral just misses with a punch to the body.
Sobral ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Nielsen moves away.

Sobral has taken the fight to the clinch.
Nielsen working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.

Sobral escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Sobral closes the distance and clinches up with Nielsen, looking for a takedown. Sobral pushes Nielsen against the cage but Nielsen circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Nielsen throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Sobral takes a swing at Nielsen's ribcage but misses.
Sobral looks to score with a jab to the body but Nielsen is just out of range.

Sobral gets a double leg takedown into Nielsen's guard.

Nielsen has his foot on Sobral's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sobral works his way back into a safe position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sobral missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Nielsen can't keep his opponent in guard - Sobral advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Nielsen is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Sobral scores with a couple of nice shots.
Sobral is looking to advance position but Nielsen won't allow it.
Sobral has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Sobral is pressing down on Nielsen's thigh, looking to free his foot. Nielsen is holding on for now.
Sobral takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Sobral not landing any meaningful shots this time.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Nielsen is pressing down on Sobral's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Nielsen has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sobral can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Sobral stays in close to Nielsen's body and controls the position.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Sobral accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Nielsen is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Sobral is aware though and is defending well.
Nielsen is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Nielsen throws a series of punches but Sobral avoids them all with ease.

Nielsen is looking to control Sobral's arms but Sobral gets an underhook and turns him. Now Nielsen has his back to the cage.

Sobral manages to break the clinch.
Nielsen throws a right and a left that both miss.

Sobral bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sobral prevents Nielsen from escaping the position.
Sobral is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Nielsen will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Nielsen is looking to reverse the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sobral shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Nielsen manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Let's hope that Sobral has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
